The Years We Were in Love

Note: The opening isn't the ending, the opening isn't the ending, the opening isn't the ending! It's a happy ending.

Synopsis: In his second year of high school, Lin Yuan met someone who took his breath away at first sight.

If he had to describe Lu Chenchi with an idiom, would it be "a gentle breeze and bright moon" or "a plum blossom on a snowy mountain"? No, no, let's not get so fancy. In a nutshell, love at first sight is just falling for someone's looks.

He was gorgeous.

From then on, Lin Yuan saw him through rose-colored glasses.

When classes were reassigned at the start of the school year, his crush became his deskmate and his only roommate. What a surprise! Was the heavens handing him a gift?

Fate really was a curious thing.

He'd heard his deskmate was a top student too.

Lin Yuan: Want to bet on which of us gets first place?

Before his deskmate could agree, their homeroom teacher overheard and praised their ambition in front of the whole class, encouraging everyone to follow their example.

One moment of extroversion earned him a lifetime of social anxiety.

But his deskmate was game: Sure. What's the stake?

Lin Yuan said outright, hands spread: I want your WeChat.

Lin Yuan: Um...

So confident. Then I want you to treat me to a day out.

For a moment, competitive spirit won out. He was full of fighting spirit, but when the results came out, they left everyone stunned.

Were top students all made from the same mold? What was going on with these identical grades, right down to the decimal point?

Thinking he wouldn't get what they'd bet on, he was shocked when the other guy added him on WeChat without a word, even though he knew the answer.

Later, he asked why.

Lu Chenchi said, "But I felt like I should have it."

So it was a tie. A tie didn't mean neither of them had to follow through. It meant that if Lin Yuan wanted his WeChat, Lu Chenchi would go along with whatever place he picked.

Smart people are straightforward. Winning someone over is really easy, as long as they let you get away with everything.

I say I like you, you say okay. Hesitating for even one more second would be disrespectful to what we have.

Except for some very real complications, like family, gender, and health.

At seventeen, the boldest decision I ever made was to fall in love with you. For the rest of my life, I'll believe that fate won't let down those brave enough to face the wind.

It doesn't matter what they say. What matters is you. What will you say?

Of course I like you. You said it yourself: fate won't let down those brave enough to face the wind.

Theme: Have the courage to face every kind of love.
