Tang Ningsu, a two-faced schemer who worked herself to death pulling all-nighters, transmigrates into the body of Yao Xiaohua, a married rural woman in the 1970s.
The original owner was a selfish, troublemaking woman who was lazy and greedy, and abused the several orphans her husband had adopted. Everyone despised her.
Tang Ningsu arrives just as her husband, unable to put up with her behavior any longer, asks for a divorce.
Looking at the awful mother-in-law and spoiled sister-in-law on her left, and a string of grubby kids on her right, Tang Ningsu readily agrees.
A divorce it is! She's not some saint who'll selflessly serve as a free nanny and mom. Whoever wants to stay in this hellhole can stay.

Not long after the divorce, Tang Ningsu unexpectedly runs into her biological son from the future. The little boy foolishly clings to her leg and calls her Mom.
Their eyes meet. Tang Ningsu is speechless for a long time. Once she confirms he's really her son, she has no choice but to accept him.
A growing boy can eat a man out of house and home, especially in the food- and clothing-scarce 1970s. She can't afford to raise him. She really can't.
After thinking it over, Tang Ningsu decides to take her son to a certain island and seek out his supposedly well-off father, an army officer.
After all, he's not just her son. Why should she be the only one raising him?
The male lead's perspective:
Song Hechuan has lived nearly thirty years by the rules, never once encountering anything so bizarre. A woman shows up with a child who looks just like him and claims the boy is his.
He suspects she's trying to scam him. He's still a virgin, so where did this big, chubby kid come from? But looking at their two similar faces, he has no rebuttal.
What a huge mess. Song Hechuan, suddenly a father: ...
What can he do? He has to take responsibility, marry the woman because of the child, and raise the boy with her.
Married life turns out better than he imagined. His son is lively and adorable, his wife gentle and beautiful, and their home warm and harmonious. This kind of life doesn't seem so bad.
Song Hechuan says: A wife and child I got for free are the best.
Apart from being a little older, her convenient husband has a house, good looks, and savings. Tang Ningsu is quite satisfied with her life now, too.
Content warnings: The female lead won't support anyone financially. Her previous self had a marriage in name only. Both leads are sexually inexperienced.
