Endless Summer

"No matter how many times we start over, you're always the one who takes the initiative and asks to make up.

He Xi,

forgive me for being a coward,

and thank you for letting me experience life's bittersweetness."

When they meet again, He Xi nestles in the crook of his arm, her cheeks flushed a faint pink. Sincerely, she says, "I want us to make up. I don't mean to make up for everything that happened before, because I know I can't. I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

He is so overwhelmed that he loses his head, helplessly swept away in her tenderness. He wishes he could leap out of bed at once, drop to his knees, and bang his head on the floor in repentance before He Xi.

But the more he listens, the more something feels off. The soft voice in his arms, quiet as a mosquito, grows clearer and clearer. He hears He Xi say, "I know I can be stubborn sometimes, but sometimes you're as bullheaded as an ox that can't understand a word anyone says."

Hmm...

Bullheaded as an ox that can't understand a word anyone says.

She must mean him.

But an ox can't understand people anyway.

Knowing he's in the wrong, Ye Xingzhou quietly rubs his nose. At a time like this, not arguing is the most proper attitude.

He Xi is still making him promise things from the crook of his arm. "...So from now on, you have to listen to me. If I say go east, you can't go west. If I tell you to jump in the river, you absolutely can't throw yourself into the Yangtze!"

*

Ye Xingzhou: I won't jump in the river or throw myself into the Yangtze, because I'm most familiar with the road to the crematorium.
