The fog had only just begun to lift the day he arrived. - Qiu Shi
That night, Qiu Qiqi received a phone call.
The fog was thick, the wind bit cold, and the skyscraper towered into the clouds. She stepped into the president’s office at Shengshi Entertainment.
Danger closed in around her, leaving her with no choice but to accept it.
She had willingly worked like a horse, following her boyfriend and helping him fight his way into the entertainment industry. In the end, she had to watch with her own eyes as he rolled around in bed with another woman.
He Zizhou, president of Shengshi Entertainment, could determine an entertainer’s future with a casual remark.
He saw right through her. When he asked, “Do you want to get back at him?”, she grasped at the poison as if it were a cure.
She climbed aboard his pirate ship.
-
A widely respected university professor for a father, a brilliant anesthesiologist for a brother, and a biased mother.
Watching her ex-boyfriend sign with Shengshi Entertainment and see his career take off, Qiu Qiqi grew more and more regretful. She could no longer stand it, and went to confront him.
A careless smile played in the man’s eyes, as though he were looking at a magpie perched on a windowsill.
He Zizhou: “Miss Qiu, first and foremost, I’m a businessman.”
Qiu Qiqi exploded with anger. “So what you said doesn’t count anymore?”
The casual look in the man’s eyes tightened. He furrowed his brow, and a deep chill instantly settled over his face.
Qiu Qiqi clenched the hem of her clothes. Her furious questioning came to an abrupt halt, but her body kept trembling with anger.
“People have to look at the long term.”
She was consumed by grievance. She knew it would be as easy for him to crush her as an ant, but she still challenged him with red-rimmed eyes and stubborn resolve. “I don’t want to work with you anymore.”
Qiu Qiqi gave up trying to keep up appearances. She sat on the floor beside the shoe cabinet in the man’s entryway, staring blankly at the tall figure pacing around the living room.
Then the man calmly walked over to her, a bottle of mineral water in his hand. His knuckles gripped it as he unscrewed the cap.
By the time he reached her, the cap had come off.
“Have some water first.”
“A good show needs time to mature before it can even begin to be worth watching. You’re young and hot-blooded, and you’re in a hurry to see how things turn out. I understand.”
Qiu Qiqi stared at the water in her hand. “You’re only eight years older than me. You don’t have to act so world-weary.”
He Zizhou’s throat tightened.
Only eight years older than me...
Only...
She lowered her head, unaware of the disbelief and sorrow filling the man’s cool, quiet eyes.
