For Her

Realistic / vast difference in status / the beauty of a tragic ending

Fang Lining is tricked into working at an entertainment venue in Harbor City, where she suffers countless humiliations.

Jiang Wenting, the young heir of Harbor City, appears like a god from the heavens and reaches out to help her.

Following Jiang Wenting is Fang Lining’s only choice.

She is only eighteen that year, but understands that the gulf between them can never be crossed. She can only ever be his “kept woman.”

In the face of his cool, dignified features, Fang Lining finds it hard not to fall for him.

Jiang Wenting gives her everything he can, broadens her horizons, helps her earn a higher degree, and teaches her how to conduct herself.

He gives her the ability to leave him and still stand proudly and freely on her own in society.

The wealthy socialites of Harbor City’s business circles envy her deeply, and pity her just as much.

When Fang Lining turns twenty-eight, Jiang Wenting finally fulfills his long-delayed duty to enter an arranged marriage.

And so, the two break up.

Xun Lingyi, his arranged-marriage partner, lost the love of her life long ago. She understands Jiang Wenting, and feels deeply for Fang Lining.

Xun Lingyi urges Jiang Wenting to ask Fang Lining to stay, but he refuses.

He does not want her to be a caged bird, confined to the springtime world in his palm.

Later...

Fang Lining leaves for a life abroad, traveling around the world.

Jiang Wenting has both power and influence, and everyone fears him.

They never see each other again.

“The highest form of love a man can give a woman is to teach her, step by step, how to survive in society, and give her resources and support, so that even if he is gone one day, she can still live well and with dignity.”

Theme: Responsibility.
