If the Gods Should Descend

Have you ever seen swords and spears clash, kin slaughtering one another?

Have you ever seen the starving lying across the land, snow falling in midsummer?

Have you ever prayed for the gods to descend and punish evil, rewarding the good?

Have you ever prayed for the land to be at peace and the people to live in safety?

You saw it all, prayed for it all, then lost faith and gave up.

Grieving, you resented the world's injustice, yet could do nothing about it, and died in bitterness.

At the moment of your death, you still held on to a glimmer of hope: if the gods truly exist, please descend.
