After discovering that she had transmigrated into a book and been handed a good-for-nothing, love-struck heroine's script, Nan Shu calmly broke off a piece of pastry she'd made for a scumbag and fed it to the green snake beside her.
Other people awakened origins like wind, rain, thunder, and lightning. Her origin was a giant washboard, and it came with symptoms like having a mixed, impure spiritual root!
The family elders offered her these career options: One, work in the family laundry. Two, work in someone else's laundry. Three, work in a sect's outer-court laundry. Four, open her own laundry and take individual orders.
Nan Shu politely declined and tried to get information out of her neighbor: "Has anyone ever awakened a dozen or more origin tools at once?"
Her neighbor replied, "A legendary grandmaster was said to possess five origins at once, at most. A dozen? There's no way such a freak exists in the cultivation world!"
Nan Shu stared silently at the dozen-plus tools she had awakened in her second awakening: a blur tool, a filter, a clone stamp, a healing brush, a history function, a pen tool, an eraser, and so on...
But even a dozen-plus origins couldn't change the fact that her spiritual root was mixed and impure. She wasn't going to get far on the path of cultivation, so she might as well work hard to get rich.
Nan Shu stood in the labor market holding up a sign: "Professional censorship and concealment services. Localized censorship: 10 low-grade spirit stones per use. Half-body censorship: 100 low-grade spirit stones per use. Full-body censorship: 200 low-grade spirit stones per use. Color can be added for an extra fee."
The next day, Nan Shu's sign had changed: "Professional fugitive tracking. You have a case, I have a way. Fees negotiable."
Not long after, the sign changed again: "Repairs for severed arms and legs. Give me a broken body, and I'll return a perfect one. Bonus services: choose one, detoxification or beautification."
Later still: "Professional invisibility services. Local, partial, or full-body invisibility available."
Business was booming, but her services were too outrageous, and people had started watching her. Nan Shu decided to find a sect she could rely on.
As it happened, someone handed her a recruitment flyer. As it also happened, it was for the Qiongbi Pavilion her neighbor had told her was a place where "everyone was rolling in wealth." It suited her perfectly, so she nodded and accepted.
And so she acquired a senior brother who worked as an apprentice in a blacksmith shop; a second senior sister who farmed in the countryside; a third senior brother who made a living writing couplets at a street stall; a fourth senior sister who went from street to street repairing horseshoes; a fifth senior brother, the top embroiderer at a small-town embroidery shop; a sixth senior brother who sold beef noodles at the end of an alley; and the Pavilion Master of Qiongbi Pavilion, who also happened to be her master and carved tombstones for a living.
Nan Shu: Rolling in wealth?
To welcome their new junior sister, her eldest senior brother gave her an iron pellet and smiled honestly. "It's just a worthless little trinket. Play with it."
It wasn't until one day that this iron pellet turned a Nascent Soul cultivator into a sieve.
Her second senior sister returned with a hoe over her shoulder and gave her a small bag of dried sweet potatoes, smiling warmly. "Have them as a snack!"
One day, Nan Shu was hungry and tried one. Feeling the immense spiritual energy in her dantian, she finally realized her second senior sister meant for her to eat them as spirit stones, not snacks.
Her third senior brother gave her a sack of discarded scraps of paper covered in failed couplets, waving a hand casually. "Use them if you can. If you can't, sell them online."
Nan Shu: Are you sure you mean sell them and not burn them?
Then she randomly pulled one out and read the words on it: "●● fall flat on your big butt right where you are..." Before she could finish speaking, she was sitting on the ground with a broken tailbone.
Nan Shu: ??
Her fourth senior sister's welcome gift was a pair of riding boots and a silver-horned horse the size of her fist, telling her to "keep it as a pet," until one day...
Her fifth senior brother gave her a robe he had embroidered himself, its design of a hundred birds paying homage to the phoenix so lifelike it seemed to move, until one day...
Her sixth senior brother was a potter. When he didn't have work, he sold beef noodles on the pedestrian street. The first time they met, he tossed her a chipped, patched-up bowl, until one day...
Her master cheerfully lined up a row of miniature stone steles on the ground and told her to "turn one over."
Nan Shu flipped one over at random. Her master frowned. "The Human Emperor's secret realm... Little Seventh, your luck is awful. You picked the most useless one. Oh well, the secret realm is yours. As compensation, I'll give you a gold mine too."
Nan Shu: Truly rolling in wealth!
She became the poorest person in her sect, and the pressure was on Nan Shu. To catch up with the fortunes of her senior brothers and sisters, she worked around the clock to make money.
Cultivation? Who has time for that?
It's just that a green snake had made its home in her gold mine. She'd seen this species before... No, she'd fed one.
Nan Shu carried it outside to release it, but the green snake crawled back again and again. Nan Shu got tired of it and tied it around her waist. "Be good and don't make trouble. I'm mining."

Zhi Qing was a poisonous Azure Dragon among the sons of the Dragon Clan. After being injured and afflicted with the Deathrot Seal, he could only maintain his original form. He hid in the Douxing Sect to recover and break the seal. On the day the "Chixiao Stairway" opened, he used it to suppress the rot in his wounds. As he tilted his head back and drew in spiritual energy, an osmanthus cake fell into his mouth, disrupting his cultivation and reversing the flow of his spiritual energy. Yet by chance, he also found a way to undo the Deathrot Seal.
He memorized the human's scent, intending to repay her kindness once he had recovered.
The problem was... his benefactor was picking at the plaster on his wall. How was he supposed to handle that?
