Little Days in the Nineties

Zheng Xiuqin, the eldest daughter of the Zheng family, was famous for being wonderful: pretty, hardworking, and handy. The new accountant at the village supply and marketing cooperative had taken a liking to her, but she wasn't interested. Instead, she turned around and found herself a good-for-nothing layabout. People said that man had nothing going for him except his looks.

Yuan Song, the youngest son of the Yuan family, was famous for being universally disliked. Even his own brother and sister-in-law couldn't say a good word about him. Yet somehow, he was blessed with good luck: he lazed around all day and still found himself a gorgeous wife.

A handsome face couldn't put food on the table. Everyone waited for Zheng Xiuqin to regret her choice and run home to cry.

Who knew that later, everyone would discover Yuan Song wasn't a layabout at all? He'd rented a large courtyard outside town and opened a scrap collection station. His mother thought dealing in scrap sounded shameful, saying it was better to call him an unemployed youth, so she kept it under wraps in case it made it hard for him to find a wife.

Now that he'd brought his wife home, the old lady handed the accounts over to her new daughter-in-law. "Xiuqin, please don't hold it against him, considering how well he earns. He said this hundred thousand yuan was pocket money for me. Can you believe that? I don't even know how much more he has. Go ask him, get the books, and take charge..."

The sister-in-law, who'd always looked down on her younger brother-in-law, was jealous.

Everyone who'd been waiting to laugh at Zheng Xiuqin was jealous too.

The young couple thrived. Yuan Song collected scrap and repaired discarded electronics, while Zheng Xiuqin opened a little shop in town. Starting with secondhand appliances, she gradually became a famous local appliance dealer...

Her husband was Yuan Song, the Scrap King, aka Yuan Million. She was Zheng Xiuqin, the Appliance Goddess, aka Zheng Million. (Blurb screenshot from July 31, 2022)
