Flying Low Through Summer

"We rise, flying low over summer."

1) On the day she transferred to Third High School, Wen Nong introduced herself at the front of the classroom.

Zhou Xilin had just woken up. He misheard her name as "Wenrou" and teasingly called out, "Welcome, Wenrou!"

The tips of Wen Nong's ears turned red as she corrected him. "It's Nong... the Wu dialect word for 'you' in 'you, me, and them.'"

But he had already lost interest, turning to chat about something else with his deskmate.

Yet in that very moment, Zhou Xilin moved into Wen Nong's eyes. His features were sharp, his manner wild and free, and though he loved wearing black, it could not hide his dazzling presence. He was from a world utterly unlike hers: she was frail, poor, and living under someone else's roof.

By chance, Wen Nong learned Zhou Xilin's email address and sent him an email signed WN.

At the teachers' appreciation banquet after the college entrance exams, she planned to confess her feelings. But when she found him, she saw him with her cousin.

Her cousin's initials were WN, too.

He had mistaken her cousin for Wen Nong.

2) Years later, when they met again, Wen Nong recognized Zhou Xilin at a glance.

Zhou Xilin, on the other hand, only barely remembered who she was after someone prompted him.

When they acknowledged each other, he leaned lazily against the railing, idly flicking his lighter. Light and shadow flickered in his deep, pool-like eyes, and his tone was casual. "So we knew each other before? Your name's Wenrou? Wu Nan's little sister?"

Wen Nong's nose stung. He still didn't remember her real name, and his strongest impression of her was still that she was her cousin's little sister.

So she kept her expression calm and asked in return, "Is that so? How come I don't remember you?"

3) The day Zhou Xilin proposed to Wen Nong, he prepared not only a ring, but two letters as well.

One was for the eighteen-year-old WN, and one for the twenty-eight-year-old Wen Nong:

"There is a long summer in your life, full of hesitation, suffocation, loneliness, and confusion.

You only have to rise a little to fly over this summer.

I'll be with you, flying low over summer."

Sensitive, cool heroine x dazzling, carefree hero

Female novelist x captain of a maritime rescue team
