The Junior Supervisor of the Imperial Kitchen

Jiang Yun transmigrated as an orphan whose parents were both dead. Disguised as a boy, she was sent to the palace as a servant.

Life in the cold, harsh palace was hard to bear. Fortunately, she had an adult mind, and by being sweet-tongued, well-behaved, and good at sucking up to people, she got into the Imperial Kitchen as a low-ranking eunuch.

The Imperial Kitchen was in charge of meals for the emperor and his consorts.

Being a eunuch in the Imperial Kitchen was more comfortable than serving in other parts of the palace. Whether or not she could get her hands on a little extra, at least she wouldn't starve, and she could stay away from the harem's power struggles. It was a pretty good job.

But Jiang Yun didn't see it that way.

She didn't want to do hard labor every day, eat plain food, or share a large sleeping platform. She wanted to taste all the delicacies and fine dishes that passed before her day after day.

That meant she had to work her way up.

From low-ranking eunuch, to kitchen assistant, to head cook, to chief eunuch, to superintendent of the Imperial Kitchen.

After becoming head cook, Jiang Yun got a room of her own and started to lie flat. As long as she could handle a big wok, she'd have no shortage of good food and drink, and becoming the harem's most favored person was just around the corner.

But then she realized someone else was living even more comfortably than she was.

That person was Huo Jing, an assistant commissioner of the Imperial Horse Office. He managed the imperial estates and shops outside the palace, and could freely enter and leave the palace with his waist token. He had plenty of ways to make money and was the sort of person who had connections both inside and outside the palace.

Jiang Yun ingratiated herself with him, showed him concern, and brought him delicious food. At last, she got the chance to leave the palace and became sworn friends with Huo Jing.

But one day, she suddenly remembered that Huo Jing seemed to be... the infamous eunuch who was a notorious villain in history. After his downfall, all his followers were executed. So was it still in time to turn against him and pretend she didn't know him?

She began looking at Huo Jing differently, but it seemed he was looking at her even more strangely.
