Synopsis
Que Ming committed every imaginable evil in his life. In his youth, he murdered his elders and betrayed his sect. As he grew older, he cultivated demonic arts and became a demon lord, until the sixteen palaces of the Immortal Dao joined forces to kill him.
He closed his eyes and opened them again, only to awaken in the body of a minor cultivator. He realized that the wickedness he had committed in his previous life had brought him retribution: now his spiritual meridians were blocked, his sea of consciousness sealed, and his face looked about seventy or eighty percent like his old one.
Worse still, a hundred years had passed since his death. The junior uncle who had once severed ties with him had become the Medicine Sage. His junior sister, who had cried and called him heartless, had become a leader of the Immortal Alliance. The four disciples he had swindled and cheated had all become exceptional figures. And the little disciple who had helped poison him from the inside was now a fearsome demon lord, having inherited his master's legacy.
In short, both the righteous and demonic worlds were in their heyday.
The demon lord reborn, who only knew how to eat whenever he opened his eyes: ... I really can't go on like this!!
Following the principle that if he couldn't afford to provoke them, he could at least avoid them, Que Ming was just about to make a run for it when his cheap older brother dragged him off to take part in an Immortal Alliance selection. He knelt there in a daze for half a quarter of an hour, and a jade token suddenly fell from the sky. Everyone around him stared with envy and jealousy.
Que Ming trembled: What does this mean?
Elder: Congratulations, young friend! Our sect master has chosen you as his disciple. He hasn't taken on a new one in a hundred years.
Que Ming: Your sect master...
The elder puffed out his chest proudly: Our Yuchen Sect's master, Huai Cang, is a peerless immortal of his generation, and without a doubt the greatest cultivator in the world today!
Que Ming fell apart.
Wasn't this the senior brother who had hated him so much that he'd personally killed him, and then, still not satisfied, destroyed his tomb as well???
-
Returning to the sect he had once betrayed, Que Ming found that life wasn't as difficult as he had imagined.
The Yuchen Sect's rules were strict. The disciples had to copy scriptures as punishment every day and suffered terribly, but their notoriously stern sect master merely glanced at Que Ming and let him off;
After poisonous beasts ambushed him, the Medicine Sage personally sent someone to deliver an antidote the next day;
When someone tried to sabotage him during the Immortal Alliance tournament, the alliance leader, who had been watching from the sidelines, suddenly leapt into the arena and held a sword to the culprit's throat;
Even the demon lord, famed for killing without mercy, dropped to his knees at Que Ming's feet when he got a good look at his face.
The disciples were stunned: Who exactly are you???
Seeing that he couldn't keep up the act, Que Ming had a sudden idea: Do you know why your sect master only ever punishes you, and never me?
The disciples took out their sunflower seeds and leaned in to listen.
Que Ming: Your sect master has a secret. He's been in love with his junior brother for years, but his love has always been unrequited. So in the end, he settled for a substitute who looks like him: me.
The disciples dropped their sunflower seeds: Um, well...
Que Ming smugly: What, so shocked you can't speak?
The disciples pointed behind him with trembling hands.
Que Ming turned around and saw his senior brother, now older and ever more severe in temperament, standing behind him with an expressionless face.
That night, Que Ming was summoned to the Sun and Moon Hall for questioning.
The foremost immortal of his generation never let his emotions show. His former junior brother was the one thing he could not bear to hear mentioned or discussed.
Que Ming knelt in the hall, trembling, certain he was done for.
After a long while, Huai Cang descended from his seat. His icy fingertips brushed the side of Que Ming's face.
"How is it that I supposedly pined for my junior brother and took you as his substitute?" He suddenly squeezed Que Ming's face and lifted it toward his own. "I have never understood matters of love. So I would be grateful if my beloved disciple would demonstrate them for me."
Que Ming had just made up a whole story to defend himself: "Master, wait, let me explain... Huh???"
