Utterly Heinous

Written in middle school, maybe it was mocking something.

Excerpt from the story:

Fire is burning.

A heart is beating.

Two things of similar color intertwine, ruthlessly devouring each other. The heart slowly melts, while the fire burns fast, using the other as fuel.

Suddenly, a gust of wind extinguishes the fire.

A mass of ink-black dots approaches from far away. They are an ill omen: crows.

The crows wheel wildly through the air, a few black feathers falling away. Suddenly, one darts toward the prison boundary like lightning, as if trying to tear through the sky.

“I still hope you...”

The gloomy sky rumbles. The crow cries out, roaring. Even with its feathers in disarray, it keeps flying.

“Can remain an outsider.”

Dark clouds gather, and the rumbling grows louder.

“Forever innocent...”

The crow raises its head high and challenges the sky once more.

“Forever happy...”

Standing beneath a withered vine and an old tree, I feel a sudden, violent wind pass through my arms, sending ripples through me.

“Mr. Rabbit...?”

He kissed me, but I couldn't return it.
