Luo Ran is a writer who penned a hugely popular novel.
The male lead was originally meant to be a lovesick, obsessive madman, but because that characterization didn't fit modern values, he was forced to rewrite him as a gentle and refined man.
Later, Luo Ran unfortunately transmigrates into the novel he wrote, becoming a villainous cannon fodder character everyone loves to hate. He not only uses the protagonist as a human target for shooting practice, but also beats him up at the drop of a hat.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Luo Ran decides to play his villainous role to the hilt.
One day, following the System's instructions, he's about to attack the protagonist. His fist is just about to land on the other man's face when the protagonist doesn't even dodge.
After accidentally hitting him, Luo Ran is terrified. He trembles as he looks at the tall man before him, who seems strong enough to kill him with a single slap, and squeezes his eyes shut in fear.
But he waits and waits, and the fist never falls on him. All he gets in the end is a baffling question: "Does your hand hurt?"
Luo Ran thinks the protagonist has indeed become the dull, selfless good guy he rewrote him to be.
To finish his task and return home as soon as possible, the kinder the protagonist acts, the worse Luo Ran behaves.
The protagonist in his novel is allergic to cat hair, so Luo Ran sneaks into his room in the middle of the night and secretly puts a cat on his bed.
Just as he's about to slip away without a sound, the man on the bed reaches out, pulls him and the cat into his arms, and sleeps with them all night. No matter how much Luo Ran struggles, he doesn't wake up.
Luo Ran senses something is off. To test the other man, he looks up all kinds of allergens. But all he gets for his trouble is a thoughtful look from the protagonist when he sees the lavish seafood dinner Luo Ran has prepared for him, and a delighted yet inscrutable look when he receives flowers.
A year later, things take a dramatic turn.
The protagonist becomes an industry star, admired by everyone, while Luo Ran's status plummets after an unexpected turn of events.
When the tiger leaves the mountain, even a dog dares to bully it. Luo Ran has made countless enemies through his past misdeeds, and is constantly mistreated at work.
When he has nowhere left to turn and is sitting in a corner, quietly crying, the protagonist finds him.
Luo Ran wipes away his tears and stubbornly looks up. "Are you here to get revenge on me too?"
The protagonist looks at him without saying a word. After a long while, he slowly crouches down and nods.
Luo Ran cries even harder. After a while, he sobs and leans his head toward the man. "You can hit me a few times. Will you let me go after that?"
The protagonist raises a hand and gently strokes his cheek, his gaze tender and lingering, though his voice leaves no room for argument. "No."
Luo Ran's heart sinks. He's terrified of the revenge awaiting him, but he still believes the kind-hearted male lead he created won't do anything to him.
But he is wrong.
"You have nothing now. You can only rely on me."
The protagonist cruelly states the truth. After waiting so long, he's finally about to get what he wants, and no longer hides the possessive hunger in his gaze.
"If you think I'll let you go, you can forget it. Not in this lifetime."
