The Princess Consort Takes Me for a Substitute

Chu Zhen was noble and proud, with peerless good looks. He was the dream lover of countless young women in Yanjing, yet the late emperor's final decree forced him to marry Song Wanxing, a girl from a humble family.

Chu Zhen naturally disliked her. Whenever they shared a bed, he would watch her drink fertility medicine without pausing for a moment, and feel contempt for her.

Later, Song Wanxing finally became pregnant, and her belly grew larger by the day.

Every day after work, Chu Zhen saw her standing in the courtyard, gently calling him her husband.

He also thought that if she stopped associating with those poor relatives of hers, she would remain his lawful wife forever.

Until an unexpected turn of events changed everything.

Song Wanxing fell unconscious and, in her delirium, called out another man's name.

Chu Zhen's hand shook as he fed her medicine, and his whole body stiffened.

Later, when she asked for a divorce, Chu Zhen flew into a rage and imprisoned her.

He told her that as long as she could forget that man, they could still be husband and wife.

But she looked at him calmly, without a trace of love in her eyes. Only when she mentioned that man did her voice hold regret and tenderness. "You know? I almost married him."

It turned out she had been engaged to his cousin, who had died in battle.

From beginning to end, Chu Zhen had only ever been a substitute.
