Story blurb

Everyone in their circle knows that Cheng Kening has been chasing Yu Jiali for over ten years.

On the eve of their engagement, she thinks her patience has finally paid off, only to catch him cheating in bed without warning.

Her stepsister deliberately reveals the red marks on her skin, looking close to tears. "It's all my fault..."

Yu Jiali displeasedly shields her behind him. "Don't scare her."

Cheng Kening trembles all over.

The bedroom door slams with a deafening bang. With her own hands, she ends more than a decade of unrequited love.

On a bleak, deserted night, Cheng Kening huddles beside a roadside flower bed, heartbroken.

Suddenly, a Rolls-Royce Cullinan pulls up in front of her.

"Cheng Kening, I haven't seen you in years. How'd you end up like this?" the man says slowly, looking down at her from above.

Cheng Kening and Ming Chiqing grew up together. They were childhood friends and sworn enemies who couldn't stand each other.

She knows he's here to laugh at her, so she says with a bitter smile, "You must be pleased."

The moonlight is hazy, and undercurrents swirl.

But the man only chuckles. "Will you marry me?"

Cheng Kening is stunned. "You..." Have you gone crazy?

"First, you won't have to sleep on the street tonight. The ancestral jade bangle from your grandmother that was auctioned off last month can be bought back for three times the price. The old house your mother left you can probably still be saved. Your stepmother hasn't gotten her hands on the Cheng Group shares yet... Oh, right, and your ex-boyfriend..." Ming Chiqing bends down and raises an eyebrow. "I'm the biggest investor in his new movie."

Cheng Kening's expression shifts in all kinds of ways. Her eyes redden, but she finally manages a polite smile. "You do have a point."

"I Love You, Goodbye"

[Playboy vs. Good Girl]

Tang Mengmeng is reserved, timid, and quiet. The boldest thing she's ever done is secretly love Bian Yang for three years.

The young man is carefree and unrestrained. She watches him date one girlfriend after another, feeling both envious of his passionate, uninhibited life and bitter about it.

During their senior-year graduation trip, Tang Mengmeng gathers her courage and secretly kisses Bian Yang on the brow.

She thinks no one saw, but he had seen through her all along.

"You like me." The young man lazily blows out a mint-scented ring of smoke, then smiles at her through the pale blue haze. "Want to be with me?"

Tang Mengmeng gazes at his bewitching dark eyes, believing at last that luck has finally come her way.

Years later, she finally sees how fickle and unfaithful he is.

One ordinary evening, Tang Mengmeng stands outside his car window and breaks up with him.

"Are you sure?" The man raises an eyebrow, fingers resting on the steering wheel, seemingly certain she won't really leave.

"I'm sure." But this time, the timid girl leaves with uncharacteristic resolve.

A playboy never turns back.

From then on, she has nothing to do with his hedonistic world.

Years later, Tang Mengmeng returns to her home country after finishing her studies.

At a banquet held in her honor, with glasses clinking all around, Tang Mengmeng ignores Bian Yang, who wasn't invited. Even so, he corners her in an empty lounge.

"I love you. Don't leave me." The man who used to be so composed speaks in a hoarse voice that sounds almost like a plea.

Tang Mengmeng's expression remains blank. "Sir, please show some respect."
