Kirisaki Rin is a student at a performing arts school. His greatest goal in life is to find his long-missing older sister.

However, fate played a little trick on him.

One day, he received a text like this, along with a deck of cards.

There was no sender and no time stamp. It seemed like a prank.

Kirisaki Rin opened the package and saw a line of text.

[Detective Conan spin-off character role-playing card game. You will draw a character role, find the "wolf" in this round and take their role, or become the wolf and take the abilities of all the roles. The game ends.]

A spin-off game based on that manga that's been running for twenty years and has retconned countless things?

Kirisaki Rin: ...

This had to be a prank. How was he supposed to play a card game by himself? Was he meant to act out different personalities?

With nothing to lose, he followed the instructions and started the first round.

[Seven minutes after midnight, light a candle and face a mirror. Deal all the character cards randomly in clockwise order, then draw one at random to start the game. The first round ends when the candle burns out.]

Kirisaki Rin: This really isn't some supernatural summoning ritual?

Character card [Conan]: You are the Grim Reaper's emissary. Wherever you go, unexpected incidents occur. If the game reaches a stalemate, you are the key to breaking it.

[Gin]: You are the only one with a conscience, no matter which side you're on. Traitors and undercover agents will always surround you.

[Amuro Toru]: Your lover is your faction, a super workaholic who only sleeps three hours a day. Your faction will have four teammates lose their abilities.

[Haibara Ai]: You have one bottle of poison and ten bottles of low-quality antidote. The poison can have one of two effects. Which one takes effect is up to fate. You also have a built-in enemy-faction detection buff, but if you successfully detect someone, you lose your abilities.

[Mouri Ran]: You have the strength to smash a utility pole with one punch and the luck to win every lottery draw, but you have a hard time finding the enemy faction, almost never managing to find them.

Besides character cards featuring characters from the manga, there were also location cards like [Hawaii, the Land of All Possibilities], [The Inescapable Locked Room], and [The Liquor Company with Barely Any Bottles]... and item cards like [APTX4869], [Porsche A56], and [Genta's Eel Rice], among others.

It seemed pretty comprehensive. Was this really not a supernatural prank?

Kirisaki Rin glanced at the character cards. Only [GIN] looked troublesome. He just had to avoid drawing that one.

The moment he picked up his cards, he felt his consciousness pulled away. The candle flickered before his eyes. He didn't have time to worry about the countdown bomb that had suddenly appeared before him, and first looked at his hand.
