Shen Dongxia

"I will follow your will and believe in you until the very last moment of my life."

Those were the most moving words of love Fu Long ever said to Shen Dongxia.

*

In the fourteenth year of the Republic, Shen Dongxia, who had been dead for thirteen years, was reborn.

All his old friends and family had perished in the chaos of war. He was alone, and people were still hunting him everywhere.

Zhou Zining, chief of the Shanghai police station, seemed to pay him special attention, protecting him at every turn.

Shen Dongxia saw in him the shadow of Fu Long, the enemy he'd once had.

So he treated Zhou Zining as Fu Long's stand-in, constantly trying to atone for his sins.

One day, Zhou Zining said to Shen Dongxia, "What if I told you that I am Fu Long?"

Shen Dongxia: "..."

The old-fashioned young man, whose thoughts had once been as rigid as rotten wood, had also embarked on the same path Shen Dongxia had taken.

He said, "Following you is the faith of my whole life."

So they walked shoulder to shoulder, without hesitation, into the final darkness before dawn.

In that great fire, Shen Dongxia and Zhou Zining vanished from the world forever.

But the diamond rings on their fingers never disappeared in the flames.

Shen Dongxia wasn't his name. It was the name of the one he loved.

It was the name he'd carried for thirteen years after Shen Dongxia died.

It was also the name of countless people who risked everything for their ideals.
