Ning Fei had finally made a name for herself in her career and was returning home for the New Year with her head held high, only to be told to accompany her hopeless older brother to meet his blind date.

Thinking she might as well save whoever she could, Ning Fei agreed.

All the way there, her handsome-but-useless brother raved about how excellent his blind date was: a graduate of a top university, from a family of lawyers, stunningly beautiful, and, apart from being busy with work and not talking much, practically the perfect marriage prospect.

Ning Fei played along while thinking to herself: If this woman is really so great, why is she going on a blind date with my brother?

When they arrived at the agreed-upon place, Ning Fei saw a woman with exquisite features and outstanding poise, whose mere presence at the table made her heart flutter. She froze.

Th-this was the ex-girlfriend who had dumped her without mercy five years ago!

In her third year of university, Ning Fei had gone to great lengths to land an internship at a law firm. She worked like a horse every day, so busy that her blood sugar dropped and she nearly fainted in the bathroom.

Luckily, a beautiful woman nearby handed her a piece of milk candy, preventing a "disaster."

In her dizzy haze, Ning Fei remembered only the candy's sweetness and the faint, cool fragrance from the woman.

She learned that the woman was her senior in graduate school, part of the same team, and had just returned from a business trip.

Wanting to repay her kindness, Ning Fei started doing everything she could for her senior. Whether she was acting as a printing assistant or keeping her company while working overtime, she never hesitated.

Later, when they ran into each other on campus, her roommate excitedly asked how she had gotten to know the aloof beauty famous throughout the law school. Ning Fei, however, thought people might have the wrong idea about Lin Rujue.

Lin Rujue would help her with difficult tasks, keep her company during tedious study sessions, and even when Ning Fei was caught stealing a kiss, she would simply smile, take Ning Fei's hand, and kiss her back, hard.

More than once, Ning Fei thought that meeting Lin Rujue was the luckiest thing that had ever happened to her in her twenty-some years of life.

It wasn't until Lin Rujue unilaterally cut off contact with a casual, "We're not right for each other," that Ning Fei realized that perhaps Lin Rujue really was cold and indifferent at heart.

"If we're too far apart, we'll be lonely. But if we get too close, I'll destroy myself."
