The Twilight of Beika Town's Detectives
As an Exchange Student, I Choose to Reform the Government
Solving Cases with Spiritual Arts in the Detective Conan World Is a Very Conan Thing, Isn't It? (Not really)
As a well-known coffee companion at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (not really), Nanasawa Natsu lives the ordinary life of an office worker, working from nine in the morning to one at night, and is quite content with it (?).
Perhaps his enthusiasm for work finally moved his unscrupulous boss. One day:
"Nanasawa, I have a difficult and honorable task I'd like to entrust to you."
Huh? If you want me to work overtime, just say so! Nanasawa Natsu gave him a half-lidded stare.
"The once-in-a-century government exchange day is coming up. Considering your age and experience, we've discussed it and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has decided to send you to the government for an exchange program. You leave in three days."
???
An exchange program? You mean a business trip, don't you?!
But... gazing at his boss's hopeful eyes, Nanasawa Natsu, the office drone, silently nodded.
...Fine.
Three days later, Nanasawa Natsu stared at the contents of the suitcase the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department had helpfully provided and fell into deep thought.
W-Wait a second!
What exactly is this government agency you keep talking about?
Wasn't I supposed to be going there to learn criminal investigation skills? Why are there kagura bells and talismans in my suitcase?!
When the government heard about its new exchange student from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, it planned to dump him in some secondhand honmaru and leave him out of sight and out of mind.
Until a month later.
Crash!
The police officer in a hunting robe held a kagura bell in one hand and a gun in the other. Behind him stood a great crowd of muscular men carrying swords (not really).
"Stop this illegal sword trade immediately! Put on your spiritual power restraints, raise your hands, and face the wall!"
Some corrupt master: ?
The sword spirits sealed in their true forms: !
Rei Furuya was very pleased with his new contact.
Specifically, he no longer had to worry about his contact accidentally revealing his real name during a meeting and blowing his cover. He no longer had to stay up all night writing double the mission reports for both the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the Black Organization. And he no longer had to moonlight as a private detective to help his former employer meet its year-end performance targets...
A reliable contact really does cut your workload in half, Rei Furuya thought.
Until he saw his contact at a crime scene with his own eyes.
"The culprit," said the young officer with deep, dark circles under his eyes, pointing at Suspect A, who was covering their face and crying.
"The murder weapon." He then pointed to the center of the mattress. After a moment's thought, he added, "The blade was facing upward, so be careful when taking the mattress apart."
"What? You want to know how I know?"
The young, black-haired, golden-eyed officer suddenly put on a mysterious expression.
"Don't ask. It's government-taught occultism (spiritual arts)."
Rei Furuya, the committed materialist, was left utterly stunned.
[Reader's Guide]
☆ Romance makes Natsu's spiritual arts less effective (not really), so there is no romance.
☆ A crossover of Detective Conan, Touken Ranbu, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Bungo Stray Dogs. The high school police academy squad gets saved from their tragic fates, lol.
☆ Click to watch Papa physically exorcise curses in real time (?).
☆ Why can Natsu use spiritual arts but still not cure his own dark circles? Because an office drone working two jobs is bound to have dark circles forever (x).
☆ More to come...
