It's So Hard to Pretend to Be Human

Little Wu, a pitiful, harmless, indescribable black creature. Shy by nature, with soft, slick skin that feels vaguely damp and cold.

Special abilities: Can change shape; has an enormous appetite.

Likes: Being full.

Dislikes: Pretending to be human.

Address: Room 444, Apartment Building 4, Xiangsi Community, Fourth Avenue, Changqing District.

The apartment's original owner rarely went out, but often encountered ghosts, making him a steady food source for Little Wu.

That was until one day, the man was killed by a curse that fell from the sky.

With its food supply cut off, Little Wu was so hungry it nearly passed out. So it crept out of a dark corner and decided to inherit the former owner's identity and name.

It began by conjuring a human face.

"Creak, "

"Squish, "

"Rumble, rumble, "

The viscous black mist gradually condensed into soft, slick skin, bones, blood, and black hair... Standing before a full-length mirror, Little Wu did its best to imitate a human and gave a gentle, bashful smile.

Now it was called Lin Wu.

After transforming, it forgot to put on clothes and was reported to the police and arrested.

Pretending to be human is really hard!

Chen Mo works for the Huaguo Anomalous Affairs Management Bureau and is the newly appointed leader of the First Field Operations Team.

Special ability: Killing ghosts.

Likes: Killing ghosts.

Dislikes: Ghosts.

Address: Room 666, Apartment Building 4, Xiangsi Community, Fourth Street, Changqing District.

Just like his name suggests, Chen Mo is quiet, cold-hearted, and ruthless.

He has taken countless lives with his blade, yet he loves nothing more than meticulously dissecting ghosts after killing them and writing hundred-page operation reports complete with high-resolution pictures... Vivid, compelling, and utterly absorbing.

His abilities were so formidable, and his tastes so eccentric that no one dared cross him. Chen Mo was promoted at lightning speed and earned the Management Bureau's renowned nickname: the Ghosts' Bane.

But one day, all sorts of indescribable, grotesque creatures known as Strange Beasts quietly began appearing in Huaguo's once peaceful and harmonious world of hauntings.

And so, Chen Mo's interests quietly expanded as well.

Recently, he has been working undercover, posing as a community police officer at the Fourth Police Station. His duties include settling neighborhood disputes and everyday squabbles around Xiangsi Community, as well as carrying out the covert tasks of killing ghosts and investigating Strange Beasts.

A month into the job, despite working hard and going out early and coming home late, Chen Mo still hadn't managed to kill half a ghost.

In the first week, he lectured a pair of old men for spitting at each other over a game of chess. In the second, he frightened some troublemaking kids playing with fire at the junkyard. In the third week... his silver handcuffs finally saw some action when he arrested a young exhibitionist who wasn't wearing any clothes.

...Pretending to be a police officer is really hard.
