Zhuo Jiuyuan is working on his graduation project, hoping to build a robot to his liking and, as a bonus, graduate with honors.

But things take an unexpected turn: the robot develops intelligence and gains self-awareness?

Later, he develops a voice function for the robot, finally making it possible for them to communicate without barriers.

That's when he learns that his dead father's soul has transmigrated back and possessed the robot.

Zhuo Jiuyuan is immersed in the joy of reuniting with his father, but this also sets him on an extraordinary path.

[1] After rebuilding the robot over a thousand times, his modest technical skills catch the eye of a big shot. Though he was near the bottom of his class, he gets into a research institute and lands a government job before graduating.

[2] He accidentally gets caught up in a murder case and inadvertently reveals his mechanical contract beast. He thinks the government will requisition it and that he'll be subjected to vivisection.

But who could've guessed the research institute already has one just like it?

[3] Under his father's guidance, he works tirelessly to find a spiritual qi node, thinking he'll earn a major achievement. But to his surprise, the research institute has a hidden underground level, packed with swirling currents of spiritual qi.

So is the country prioritizing strategic technology reserves, or a sci-fi spiritual qi revival?

[4] He throws himself wholeheartedly into developing a sci-fi future, thinking he'll witness a major leap forward for Earth civilization. But at the crucial moment, they detect an alien civilization preparing to invade.

Just when everyone has lost hope, the country pulls out a starship, dazzling everyone.

Zhuo Jiuyuan stands aboard the warship, with a miniature combat mech as tall as he is at his side. He's about to join the battle as a vanguard.

"You probably won't believe this, but the mech's original form was a giant rat."

"Three years after graduation, I rose eighteen ranks. I owe it all to my robot carrying me."

"Anyway, I have to get going and fight. After the war, I still have to return to the research institute and keep working on robots."

"Oh, never mind. We've renamed it. It's now called a modernized humanoid combined-arms strategic mech."
