Ling Jue took in a little disciple on her sect's orders.
The child was fierce and prickly, constantly insisting that he was an evil being destined to destroy the world.
Ling Jue refused to believe him. He was clearly the future leader of the righteous path, as foretold by the sect's great master.
So even when he left her covered in wounds, Ling Jue still upheld the sect's rules, disciplining him in the strictest way and insisting on teaching the little disciple to be a good person.
"Good people don't grow tentacles, understand?" Ling Jue patiently tucked the tentacles behind the little disciple's backside back in, then gave him a gentle pat.
"Good people don't eat strange things." Ling Jue pulled the terrified, unconscious person out of the little disciple's mouth, wiped his lips, and served him some rice.
At first, the little disciple looked at her with hatred.
As he grew older, his hatred grew more and more repressed, twisted, and intense. Ling Jue knew he didn't want to be a good person, but there was nothing she could do. She could only discipline him more strictly, keeping him by her side at all times, even when he slept.
Later, when the entire cultivation world issued a wanted order for Qin Fu, Ling Jue finally realized he wasn't the little disciple she had been looking for.
Still, they had been master and disciple, and she had grown attached to him. So she used her body to shield him from the cultivation world's attempt to surround and capture him, helping him escape.
Then, using a secret technique, she transformed into a lotus and was reborn.
As it happened, Qin Fu had always hated being a good person. Now that she was "dead" and no longer there to discipline him, he ought to be happy.
On the day Ling Jue died, Qin Fu didn't cry.
Countless tentacles tore from his body in excruciating pain, becoming his clones.
They were evil gods, demon kings, demon lords, sword immortals, and martial saints. They searched from the highest heavens to the depths of the underworld, endlessly seeking someone who would never return.
At last, as if by a miracle, they found her.
Before they could rejoice and weep with relief, they saw a new little disciple standing beside Ling Jue.
The child was gentle and obedient, the good person she had wanted.
Countless pairs of eyes stared blankly as tears of blood streamed down.
After being reborn and finding the true future leader of the righteous path, Ling Jue breathed a huge sigh of relief. The cultivation world was finally saved.
She also met many good people. They were all great masters of the cultivation world, and they helped her with everything they had, making her marvel time and again at how much better the cultivation world was becoming.
But one day, Ling Jue was horrified to discover a black, curling tentacle emerging from her new little disciple's right eye, just like some kind of monster.
"My disciple, what's wrong?"
The new little disciple calmly pressed the tentacle back into his eye socket and smiled at her.
"Master, I'm sorry. I don't think I can control myself anymore."
More tentacles spilled from between his fingers.
"I'm sorry. I don't think I can be a good person anymore."
Countless tentacles surged from the darkness and wrapped around Ling Jue layer upon layer.
Tears of blood slid between his fingers.
The good people who had helped Ling Jue emerged from the deepest shadows, reaching out with layer upon layer of hands.
"Master, stay with me forever, all right?"
They embraced her, their dense sighs and whispers dark and low.
Ling Jue: ???
Ling Jue's consciousness sank into a haze.
That night, she felt every tentacle, monstrous and frenzied.
