I Ran Away After Marrying the Empire's Heir

Tang Xingzhou, the most famous mercenary in the Nine Star Systems, retires early one day. He picks a shabby little planet in a remote star system and settles into a peaceful retirement.

He spends his days tending flowers and growing vegetables. Finding the neighbor next door very agreeable, he ends up in bed with him and marries him on a whim.

Their married life is peaceful and easygoing, and his spouse is considerate. He has almost no flaws, except that he's especially clingy during the day and insatiable at night.

Tang Xingzhou thinks this life could go on for a few more years, until he dies of a sudden illness. Then, less than six months later, the Imperial Army descends on the shabby little planet and addresses his spouse as "Your Highness."

It turns out his spouse is the emperor's illegitimate son. The old emperor has ordered him to return because the empire's rightful heir was assassinated by a mercenary guilty of countless crimes.

Tang Xingzhou: ...What a coincidence.

That was the best job he ever pulled off before retiring.

That night, Tang Xingzhou leaves his spouse a breakup letter, saying he's fallen for someone else and is going to seek new happiness. Then he runs away.

Six months later, Tang Xingzhou stops by a tourist planet. The moment he lands, the entire planet goes into lockdown.

Beneath the warships blotting out the sky, his spouse walks toward him step by step, his expression dark and his voice icy. "Where's your new lover?"

Tang Xingzhou: "Dead."

"Good," Lu Qi says. "Come home. We're getting married."
