=Modern paranormal, mainly set at school. They kill ghosts and evil gods, go to school, work part-time, and grow old with their wife.
(Currently, the top's point of view seems easier to write, but I've never written from a top's POV and might not manage it. I may switch to the bottom's POV in the end...)
Xu Wangmian's wife, Yun Sui, was cursed and destined not to live past twenty-seven. Xu Wangmian searched everywhere for someone who could break the curse, but to no avail.
On a day when Yun Sui was twenty-six, Xu Wangmian finally put aside her endless pile of ancient books and research materials and took her to Northern Europe to see the aurora on a snowy night, something Yun Sui had once said she wanted to see.
Pale green ribbons of light spread across the horizon, and snow blanketed the rooftops. By then, Yun Sui was too weak to walk.
She sat on the bed and gazed out the window for a while, then looked at the person beside her, who was still reading with her head bowed. She forced a smile and asked, "Mianmian, we've had so many happy moments over the years. That's enough, isn't it?"
Xu Wangmian glanced up at her, then lowered her head and turned another page. "No."
.
After Yun Sui died, Xu Wangmian pricked her eyes with a needle, fed herself to the furnace, and returned twenty years into the past.
That year, Yun Sui was seven and about to be sacrificed to an evil god by her clan.
Overcome with rage, Xu Wangmian forgot that she was only ten herself. She charged in alone to save Yun Sui, only to be caught, beaten viciously, and thrown into the street.
Xu Wangmian woke up covered in blood. When she opened her eyes, the little girl from Yun Sui's family was looking at her with concern and offering her a piece of candy.
In that instant, it seemed all the pain had disappeared.
Yun Sui's brow was dark with ill omen, and baleful energy coiled around her. Evil ghosts surrounded her, all watching her hungrily.
That meant the ritual had already been completed. Twenty years later, her soul would be drained away completely.
She had no ability to communicate with spirits and couldn't sense anything around her. She only looked at Xu Wangmian with concern, crouched down to wipe her face, and asked softly, "Are you from out of town? You can't stay out here after dark. I heard... there are ghosts."
"No." Xu Wangmian took the candy, casually killed an evil ghost clinging to Yun Sui, and asked, "But I have nowhere to go. Will you take me in?"
After that, Xu Wangmian killed one ghost after another for Yun Sui.
Some were easy, some were dangerous, and some demanded her life in return.
But fortunately, every time she died, Yun Sui forgot her.
She didn't remember Xu Wangmian, so she didn't know how many times Xu Wangmian had died.
Yes. It was better that she didn't know.
.
Yun Sui fell in love with someone, but she was troubled, wondering if she ought to be with her.
Beneath the moon, in a damp forest.
She turned down Xu Wangmian's confession.
Yun Sui was downcast. "I keep feeling like many people who loved me have died, but I can't even remember what they looked like."
Xu Wangmian strangled a ghost creeping up behind her, then kissed her forehead. "That's not true..."
"The people who love you will stay with you forever."
They'll cross time and death to be with you.
Again and again.
.
A long time ago, they had a conversation...
Yun Sui said, "Actually, it's kind of nice. I can die while you're loving me the most, so your love for me will stay that strong forever!"
Xu Wangmian: "No, the time I love you most isn't now."
"Then when is it?" Yun Sui asked, a little unhappy.
Xu Wangmian: "Tomorrow."
◎ A brave, sickly little ray of sunshine and sweet girl x a seemingly cold woman who's actually quite unhinged
◎ Modern paranormal, mainly set at school, older woman/younger woman, happy ending!
◎ Staying by her wife's side from age seven to twenty-seven
◎ Pursuing her wife, protecting her, watching her grow up, and taking her home
◎ Mainly set in high school and university. No romance before adulthood.
(Incidentally, Xu Wangmian's mother deliberately gave her that name. Da Xu and Little Xu, the girl next door, are cousins, and between them they have three wonderfully eccentric mothers...)
Theme: "For you, a thousand times over."
