Zhu Shenqu transmigrated into the body of an exemplary student at an academy, a well-rounded young man with a bright future. But because he looked honest and dependable, he was sent to a remote region and made a caretaker at a nursery.
Everyone had plenty to say. They claimed the nursery was poor and dilapidated, with no chance for career advancement, and that the little ones there were all problem children who were hard to manage.
Sending someone as gentle and kind as Zhu Shenqu there was bound to end in disaster.
Gentle and kind Zhu Shenqu quietly felt the power in his body slowly returning. He clenched his fist and crushed a steel bar, then turned to the others and forced a rather strained smile.
"It's all right. This is... just my fate."
The nursery's little ones looked down on their new caretaker. He seemed so frail that any one of them could beat him up ten times over with a single punch.
So these malformed ones, the forsaken ones, the grotesque ones... tried every method they could think of to erase Zhu Shenqu's existence.
But not one of them succeeded.
He woke one morning wrapped from head to toe in corrosive, taut spiderwebs. Zhu Shenqu pulled them away strand by strand, revealing his suffocated-looking face and a body in a truly wretched state. Smiling, he stared at the little girl with a human head and spider's tail.
While cooking, he felt something gnawing at the back of his head. Zhu Shenqu finished reducing the sauce, calmly plucked off the troublemaking child, and spun around the half-missing, bloody head, smiling as he stared at the fat, hideous little Taotie covered in tumors.
Half awake, he heard a hoarse song beside his ear. Zhu Shenqu crossed his hands over his stomach. Though the song had churned his brain to mush, he didn't so much as blink. Smiling, he stared at the mutated sea monster, its scales cold and slick with slime.
The troublesome monster children, the remote location, the lousy grounds... none of it could defeat Zhu Shenqu. But who could have guessed that what finally beat him would be an empty treasury, with not even enough money for the next meal?
For once, Zhu Shenqu's face darkened. He grabbed a brush and changed the sign to read "Monster Services," taking on odd jobs.
He made the Taotie, who only knew how to eat, cook meals and pastries; forced the spider girl, who could spin silk, to do the packing; and sent the little sea monster to a sanatorium to provide music therapy...
Money poured into Zhu Shenqu's pockets. As he happily counted it, a dark, inky blob suddenly wrapped around his waist and quickly took human form.
He couldn't tug it off, shake it loose, or beat it to death.
The little blob sniffed the back of Zhu Shenqu's neck and licked his wound, its eyes shining.
It was happy.
It had chased all the other little ones away! Now it could snuggle up to Zhu Zhu!
