Serpent Sacrifice

Cliche-ridden reincarnation, rebirth, and amnesia tropes

Yun Ye had no parents, and he was a sickly blind man.

He scraped by in town, telling fortunes and swindling people. Every now and then, he got lucky and earned a few coins.

He had barely managed to survive until the age of seventeen when this year’s “Blessing Bride,” chosen to be offered to the Snake God, fell to the village chief’s family.

The chief couldn’t bear to give up his daughter, but he couldn’t break tradition either. So he secretly switched the chosen bride, replacing her with the helpless, blind Yun Ye.

Deep in the mountains, surrounded by dense forest, even a sighted person would never find their way out alone.

On the day he was nearly starving to death, Yun Ye, dressed in a tattered wedding gown, felt his way into a cave to shelter from the rain. Then, by accident, he stepped on something hard.

It seemed... to be alive.

Yun Ye reached out to touch it. It felt cold and slick. In just a few breaths, the monster had coiled around him, its stinking snake tongue almost brushing his cheek.

Was this really the Snake God... or some evil spirit that devoured people?

Xie Xuan was just one step away from ascending to immortality.

But the indistinct figure in his dreams was blocking his smooth path to ascension. He could sense that he and this person shared an immense karmic bond, but he could see nothing else clearly.

So he had no choice but to remain in the mortal realm.

Yun Ye knew that Xie Xuan seemed to be searching for something. Once he found it, he would ascend to immortality.

Yun Ye harbored tender feelings for this immortal, but mortals and immortals had always followed different paths. Heaven and earth could never unite, let alone the realms above and below.

But Xie Xuan was cold and distant, unwilling to spare him so much as a glance.

And Yun Ye was about to die.
