Ni Sile, an ordinary college senior, had his entirely unremarkable internship hunt finally crushed by the last straw.
Staring at the message on his phone from the other party: [Sorry, your name isn't very auspicious], he couldn't take it anymore and snapped!
Haha, isn't this about sending out resumes? I'll apply everywhere. Surely one place will take me!!!
After going on a rampage and calming down, just as he was about to sheepishly withdraw his applications, his inbox chimed.
[Congratulations! You've been hired as the CEO of our company, "Lord of Hell"! Please be ready for an interview tonight!
As a mature college student, Ni Sile took less than half a second to conclude it was a scam, and cheerfully deleted the email.
Hmph, they thought such a simple scam could fool him?
And then, that very night, he sat in Hell wearing sheep pajamas, staring at the impeccably dressed interviewer across from him.
"Welcome, new Lord of Hell. I am your interviewer, and will also be your future adjutant. If you have no objections to the contract, please sign your name..."
The adjutant paused, then continued in a more understanding tone:
"We have no dress code. If you like wearing such... erm, outfits to work, that's perfectly fine..."
"Wait, don't get the wrong idea about me!!!"
On his first day as the Lord of Hell, who loved cute pajamas, Ni Sile ran into a small problem: although Hell and the Underworld differed by only one word in Chinese, they were worlds apart, leaving him and his workplace separated by an impassable gulf. After much discussion, his subordinates came up with a solution:
"Why don't you study abroad, then consider changing your citizenship?"
Ni Sile firmly refused. "China will always be my home! Besides, are you going to take my place at university?"
"Then I suppose there's no helping it," the adjutant sighed. "But anyway, whether people come to Hell or go to the Underworld, they end up reincarnating. I doubt the Underworld will mind too much..."
"No, I think they will mind. Really."
In the end, to cut down on commuting time, the great Lord of Hell established a plan to connect the two realms with a railway. But first...
Looking at the barren landscape of Hell before him, Ni Sile sighed.
Looks like infrastructure has to come first... All right, let's launch Hell's first Five-Year Plan!
Many years later, gazing at the thriving city of Hell and the high-speed railway that had finally been completed, Ni Sile fell into deep thought.
What had he been doing all this for, in the first place?
For thousands of years, Hell had remained unchanged: erupting lava, savage hounds, shattered rock formations... The demons had long grown used to their suffering, until a new Lord of Hell appeared.
He brought technology from the human world, spreading happiness and joy across this weather-beaten land. He built a vast city, making room for every living thing. He watched over each of his subjects and did everything in his power to make their dreams come true...
"But helping a subordinate through their heat is clearly not in the city lord's handbook, is it?!"
Ni Sile looked at his good adjutant, whose clothes were in disarray as he lounged on Ni Sile's bed and reached out to wrap an arm around his waist.
"No, no, it's clearly written in the contract... [Are you willing to dedicate both your soul and your body to everything in Hell?] And aren't I part of Hell, too?"
"You signed the contract with your own hand, so you can't break it now~"
Ni Sile: ...
Damn it! I've been conned by a contract!
- A comedic, slice-of-life story. Nobody's quite right in the head.
- A naturally spacey, snarky bottom x a devious, considerate, and capable top
- The bottom's name is a pun. You'll understand why it's unlucky when you say it aloud.
- A blend of myths, including all sorts of chaotic stuff from both East and West.
Theme: Building a wonderful new Hell.
