In the original story, Fang Ying struggled all her life. Just one step away from becoming empress, she was utterly crushed and killed herself in the main hall.
After transmigrating into a book, Fang Ying believed that placing her hopes in a man was pure fantasy. Forget becoming empress: she could even try sitting on the throne herself.
But she never expected that Jiang Que, the powerful official who had supported the male lead, the Seventh Prince, every step of the way, would join her side and repeatedly make advances.
*
The wicked woman Fang Ying was adored by the prime minister's household from childhood. Arrogant and domineering, she rode her horse through the streets and injured people, and even the emperor often shielded her.
From the moment she schemed to marry Prince Rong, she plotted at every turn, all to ascend to the position of empress. She cared neither for the bonds of family nor for Prince Rong's wishes.
In the end, the male lead's scheme in the book brought all her plans crashing down. Knowing the situation was beyond saving, she killed herself atop a high terrace. Her corpse lay in the hall for three days, unattended. It was a truly miserable end.
Yet one person broke down the door and, on the fourth day, gently lifted her from the ground, granting her the honor of being buried with the emperor as his empress.

Jiang Que had been raised by the imperial family like a wolfdog, knowing only how to bite and kill, never asking what was right or wrong. Everyone under heaven feared him.
In his previous life, he pretended to support the Seventh Prince, but at the last moment he switched sides, throwing the court into chaos and killing the emperor to avenge his father's death.
But for all his calculations, he failed to account for Fang Ying's pride. She refused to go on living and ended her own life on the spot.
He received the news of her death while fighting on the battlefield.
When he opened his eyes again, he had returned to the time before Fang Ying married Prince Rong. This time, nothing in the world mattered as much as the sway of your skirt stirring my heart.
Note: The original story the heroine read differs from the male lead's previous life. Scheming, calculating, hopeless romantic x Tsundere, fussy young lady
This is a writing exercise with no real logic. I'll write wherever the story takes me. It's a melodramatic, brainless, sweet Mary Sue story, so don't overthink it.
My other book, The Regent's Beloved Has Returned, is currently updating:
Three years after the prime minister's legitimate daughter, Luo Sheng, married the regent, Zhuang Nanzhou, she mysteriously died while pregnant.
Everyone said the regent had secretly dealt with Luo Sheng, since she had been vicious in life, even going so far as to kill her own younger sister.
Gu Sheng knew only that the regent had long been in love with the prime minister's second daughter, Luo Xiao.
When Luo Sheng opened her eyes again, she had become Gu Sheng, the wife of a newly appointed top scholar of the Jin Dynasty, who had fallen into misfortune while journeying to the capital to find her husband.
Luo Sheng had no great grievances about her previous life. Though she was the legitimate daughter, her father didn't care for her and her mother didn't love her. Her younger sister was a sweet, innocent little white lotus who opposed her at every turn.
She had only wanted to survive, but in the end she died on a cold night.
No one cared for her anyway, so it didn't matter.
When she came back to life, five years had passed since "Luo Sheng's" death. The people of the Jin Dynasty all said the regent was born under an unlucky star and destined to live alone.
But one day, he cornered the top scholar's wife in the courtyard in front of everyone, his eyes red as he demanded, "A Sheng, is that you?"
*
His wife was the one he had personally sought out and married. How could he not love her?
He had simply understood what love was too late.
Theme: What is gone from thought is never forgotten.
