I Want to Be Empress

[Title and blurb provisional]

[Selfish, spiteful, and heartless noblewoman x Dark-hearted, unhinged princess]

Six months ago, Qinghe never imagined that Xie Xuanyi, always dignified and proper and celebrated as a model of feminine virtue, would knock on her door in the middle of the night.

Just as she never imagined that Xie Xuanyi, sitting up in bed in her clothes with a trace of lingering passion in her eyes, would say something so heartless.

She said, "Your Highness, I adore you, but I am a daughter of the Xie family. I only want to be empress."

That very day, news was spreading through the palace that her useless, utterly good-for-nothing fool of a younger brother was going to choose a crown princess.

Qinghe smiled. "I don't blame you."

Only later did Xie Xuanyi learn the rest of what Qinghe had said: "But I blame everyone who takes you away from me."

And so the empress died, the crown prince was deposed, and the empire fell.

Qinghe smiled and asked, "You wanted to climb the social ladder and become empress. Why didn't you climb up to me?"
