When Xu Chengyi was six, a new family moved in next door. Qi Wei's parents brought him over to greet the Xu family. Xu Chengyi had just come back from downstairs with snacks, and held out a big handful of candy to Qi Wei, who was two years older than him.

Because his older brother, Xu Linchuan, had bullied him terribly since they were little, Xu Chengyi latched onto Qi Wei instead, and never let go.

He gave him candy, carried his schoolbag, handed over his homework, and even delivered love letters for girls.

After basketball, he would bring Qi Wei water.

Xu Chengyi gazed at Qi Wei with clear, bright eyes. “I've waited for you so long. How about a kiss?”

Qi Wei gripped him tightly around the waist and kissed him hard, his breath scorching.

Xu Chengyi couldn't hold his own. His hands helplessly clutched Qi Wei's uniform, and eventually he leaned against the wall for support. The grit on the wall dug into his palm and stung a little, but every sensation melted into that kiss on a summer evening.

Xu Chengyi had loved clinging to Qi Wei since they were little. The adults even teased him: “Chengyi, if you keep monopolizing Qi Wei all day, he'll never find himself a wife.”

Xu Chengyi thought that being a wife would let him monopolize Brother Qi Wei, so he blurted out with childish innocence, “Then I'll be his wife.”

Qi Wei looked at him, deeply shaken.

He remembered those words for many years afterward.
