A seemingly sweet and obedient beauty * a forceful young emperor with an overwhelming presence
Luo A Yao knew from childhood that being a merchant’s daughter who was too beautiful and frail was no blessing in these turbulent times. At just sixteen, she was seized by a prince of Zhao and forced to become his concubine.
But on the very day of her wedding, an envoy from Qin arrived with his men and summoned her to the Qin palace to become a consort.
It turned out that when she was little, she had saved Ying Zheng, the future King of Qin, while he was a hostage.
Now that the merchant’s daughter Luo A Yao had risen to the top overnight, she wanted nothing more than to keep her head down and enjoy a comfortable, carefree life of luxury. It would be best if that fearsome King of Qin forgot all about her.
But things didn’t go as she hoped. The king always wanted her by his side, making her study martial arts and statecraft and serve him in the court and the inner palace. The young emperor seemed to have endless energy, leaving her too exhausted to walk day after day.
Luo A Yao was at her wit’s end. At last, wiping away her tears, she told the king that she was just a merchant’s daughter with no ambition. The King of Qin gazed at her for a long time before refusing:
“I believe you want to meddle in politics.”
Luo A Yao was shocked and vehemently denied any such intention. But the King of Qin was angered, refused to hear her out, and insisted on punishing her.
Only when her aching back left her unable even to get out of bed did Luo A Yao realize that the king’s accusation had actually been true.
After a few years of keeping her head down, Luo A Yao hit her head one day and suddenly remembered that she had transmigrated here, and that she was a devoted fan of the First Emperor’s achievements. But by then, the First Emperor was planning to make her empress?
No way. How could the First Emperor have an empress?
Luo A Yao panicked and fled in the middle of the night. But the towering emperor blocked her at the palace gates. The young emperor in black robes advanced step by step, chains clinking behind him.
“A Yao, the whole realm belongs to me now. Where do you think you can run?”
*
Ying Zheng had always known that his A Yao looked beautiful and docile, but beneath that exterior, her stubborn, rebellious streak was just like his own. The first time she tried to run away, the Minister of the Imperial Household came to ask what to do. He simply said she was new to Qin and didn’t know the rules.
The second time she ran, she was caught and brought back. She cried and said she knew she was wrong, and he felt so sorry for her that he let her off, saying she was young and didn’t know any better.
She had admitted her mistake. There was no need to punish her again.
Until he seized power for himself and united the seven states, making all under heaven and its people his own. And yet she ran away again.
That night, the emperor watched her flee in a panic from his high terrace and personally had artisans build a golden cage.
From now on, he would never again believe a word of her lies. No matter how much she cried and begged, he would never forgive her.
He would have everything he wanted.
The realm was no exception, and neither was she.
This is actually a sweet little romance between a young emperor and a beautiful girl. One-on-one pairing, both sexually inexperienced. (Come on, don’t worry about whether it makes sense for the First Emperor to have an empress.)
Don’t hate on it, please. I’m a self-insert fan girl, and this is a self-indulgent passion project. If it’s not your thing, just click away.
