Close Friend

[My next story will be Tonight, the Typhoon Blows In: an obsessive, forceful romance]

Also known as: What Should I Do After Accidentally Sleeping with My Best Friend?

Jiang Qingdai and Wen Shanyi had been best friends since high school. Their twelve-year friendship was as solid as a rock.

They could talk about anything: childhood, posters, pop singers, their ideal types. They would lie in the same bed and talk until dawn, sharing every secret they kept from the rest of the world.

Until one day, the person confiding her secrets became the biggest secret in the other’s heart.

Wen Shanyi returned from Beijing to work in her hometown. After years of living apart, the two close friends were together again, even moving in under the same roof.

Jiang Qingdai found it hard to get used to.

At twenty-eight, Wen Shanyi was even more captivating than she’d been at eighteen. Her gaze was deep, and her long, narrow phoenix eyes were naturally full of affection. Jiang Qingdai had a guilty conscience and couldn’t resist her.

Wen Shanyi asked her to put on her lipstick, and Jiang Qingdai had to compose herself for a long while before she dared look at her lips.

Wen Shanyi wandered around the living room in a slip nightgown as if no one else were there. She rested a hand on Jiang Qingdai’s thigh and settled into her lap, warm and soft. Her smooth arms circled Jiang Qingdai’s neck as she asked her to pet the kitten.

Jiang Qingdai lowered her lashes and, with trembling hands, draped a light blanket over her.

Wen Shanyi glanced at her unmoved friend, then turned and got up to go back to her room without changing expression.

Once inside, Wen Shanyi got dressed and let out a long sigh.

Jiang Qingdai & Wen Shanyi: She really is straight!!!

*

As their days living together passed, the two were nearly driven out of their minds by the “straight woman’s” teasing.

When friends organized a mountain getaway, they happily agreed to go, only to be assigned the same room.

That night, Jiang Qingdai got drunk and ended up in bed with her. She couldn’t help kissing her.

Jiang Qingdai realized she might want more than to be Wen Shanyi’s friend.

She wanted to be hers.

What she didn’t know was that Wen Shanyi wanted the same thing…

The morning after, Jiang Qingdai woke up and looked at the woman beside her. One strap of her slip had slipped down, exposing her snowy shoulder, and ambiguous red marks covered her neck and collarbone.

Jiang Qingdai: The! Sky! Is! Falling!

…

Jiang Qingdai: What should I do after accidentally sleeping with my best friend? Help, anyone there?

Wen Shanyi lifted a hand to pull up her slipping neckline, then brought her red lips to Jiang Qingdai’s ear. Her voice was tender and low. “Obviously… we do it again.”
