“I dwell in darkness, and you are my only light.” By Luo Yunfan.

“I never gave up on you.” By Bai Zhilin.

Bai Zhilin, of the Criminal Investigation Squad at the North Cheng Branch of Ning'an City, has a face like a model sculpted by a computer. His admirers could line up all the way to the south of the city.

The station has tried to set him up, but he always turns them down, saying he already has someone in his heart.

He’s used that excuse for nine years. No one knows what the person he loves looks like, and everyone at the station suspects they don’t even exist.

A serial murder case that made national headlines broke out in the North Cheng Branch. After the suspect was arrested, Bai Zhilin went to the roof and smoked an entire pack of cigarettes.

On his way downstairs, he ran into an enthusiastic female officer who wanted to set him up with someone. He led her to the interrogation room, jerked his chin toward the inside, and said with arrogant confidence, “There. The person I love is in there.”

Luo Yunfan never imagined that when he saw Bai Zhilin again, he would be a criminal suspect and Bai Zhilin would be the detective investigating the case.

At a loss for words, all he could manage was, “I really didn’t kill anyone...”

Bai Zhilin: “That’s what everyone in your seat usually says.”
