The Eight Virtues of Working at the Watchtower

Maria didn’t have high hopes for the new resume she’d sent out, but she never expected the world to offer her such incredible luck: she landed the newly opened Justice League social media manager position at the Watchtower.

A devoted fan of the newly formed Justice League, Maria lost all reason the moment she received the offer. As a star social media manager, she confidently believed there was only one thing to worry about in her new workplace.

Would she have to work at the Watchtower every day?

But Maria soon realized that work was work.

Her fan goggles wouldn’t make the job much easier, nor would all her enthusiasm make it any simpler. And her passion certainly wasn’t going to make the job fun.

It took just three months of probation and countless PR crises to turn an enthusiastic puppy into a cold, corporate drone. A former elite wage slave, Maria quickly picked up the eight virtues of working life that she’d once discarded.

Curiosity:

“Do you really think the satellites that keep falling out of the sky are safe, Kryptonian? Do you bleed?”

Caution:

“Well, if it isn’t Batman. Having coffee? Want me to ask the supply team to stock up on coffee injections so you can pump it straight into your veins?”

Attention to detail:

“Sorry, I got that wrong. I meant pump the coffee out of your veins.”

Reading guide:

* Wage-slave breakdown comedy. I’ll make up the other five virtues when I think of them.

* This is a gen-focused story, so the female lead may be more of a background character. At work, she attacks every living and nonliving thing in sight equally.

* Unless something unexpected happens, this should be a lighthearted slice-of-life story... I’ll add other content warnings if I think of them.
