[Detective Conan] The Wrong Way to Open the Door

You probably won't believe this, but when I opened my door this morning, a group of people who joined the same time as me had me cornered.

The five at the front were led by four who looked ready to tear me apart, as if I owed them a billion. The fifth practically had "I'm so disappointed in you" written all over their face.

"Who the hell do you like?" my curly-haired cohort demanded.

The onlookers who'd gathered to watch the drama were dumbstruck. So was the instructor who hurried over to break up the fight.

I was dumbstruck too.

Haha, this might sound a little crazy, but I seem to have become a total player overnight.

It had to be that I opened the door the wrong way!

I slammed it shut as fast as I could.

When I opened it again, the hallway was indeed empty.

*

You probably won't believe this, but I'm actually a magical boy (not really).

Anyway, every door I open becomes a magic door.

I never know what sort of character I'll be outside the door.

The day before yesterday, I was a taciturn, gloomy wreck. Yesterday, I was a sunny, cheerful boy. Today, I'm a player who seduces my cohorts, body and soul. The day after tomorrow, I'll be an undercover agent in a criminal organization, so criminally dangerous I can't get any more dangerous. A lovesick fool, a social recluse, a cross-dresser, a neat freak, an antisocial loner, a hopeless romantic, a chuunibyou... Every time I open the door, it's like playing a random-character roulette game!

I wrote down what happened each day, thinking it might make some great novel material.

Until one clear, sunny day, when I pushed open a door to the rooftop.

In an instant, the sky turned ink-black, and the sunset became flowing blood.

I saw my cohort, already dead and silent.

After that day, for the first time, I sat down and seriously thought about those doors, each one representing the unknown.

Were all the things that happened beyond those doors real, or dreams? Reflections, or fiction? My imagination? Parallel worlds? Or someone's future?
