It's Just Pity, Don't Take It Seriously

"My life has a time limit."

Yu Shijin was a man with no future.

He was nothing but a frail invalid, waiting for the day death came.

Even if you have a life to live, you should make it wonderful. But he had been the one cast aside for a very, very long time. He no longer hoped to find something called love before that day arrived.

He thought that even if he didn't have long to live, he should at least prove something to his father and the others.

Prove that he should have been their most cherished child.

"My life is far too short to sustain someone who could love me."

He was betrothed to a colonel in the Federation. One reason was that their compatibility test results were exceptionally high.

There was no wedding. Even on the day they registered their marriage, the colonel sent a subordinate to do it on his behalf.

But Yu Shijin wasn't disappointed, because he hadn't expected anything in the first place.

Every day, he simply stood quietly in the attic, gazing at the world in solitude.

...Just like when he was a child.

"I won't take up too much of your time, Colonel."

Perhaps it was the illusion of being pitied by someone for the first time.

For a brief moment, he thought someone had loved him.

"Don't flatter yourself."

"I understand, Colonel."

That man was a liar. He said he loved him.

But Yu Shijin didn't want to believe him anymore.
