A Black-Hearted Doctor’s Retirement in Gotham

Synopsis: Lin Wen is a kind and gentle doctor who has dedicated himself to saving lives and enjoys an excellent reputation in his profession. After successfully clearing (wrecking) horror game scenarios and being told he can retire, he decides to take his little clinic on vacation to another world.

A certain vampire who nearly had his teeth forcibly pulled: Kind and gentle, my ass.

A certain incubus who was nearly scared into lifelong impotence by an anti-heat shot: Gentle, my ass.

Several dark creatures who were coaxed and tricked until their kidneys were nearly harvested all protest together: Your ass!

Lin Wen: If you're unhappy with my service, you can complain to my face, darling. Don't badmouth me behind my back.

After weighing the options, the System recommends a good place: a beautiful city with simple folk, a diverse population, and plenty of love.

Gotham.

They say that in Gotham, getting ripped off and ripping people off are everyday occurrences. You can carry guns wherever you want, robbery is allowed, and murder isn't against the law. You might even run into all sorts of incredible creatures just by walking a couple of blocks!

It's just perfect for an honest, law-abiding doctor like him, who loves medical research and only wants to lend a helping hand to others!

And so, to people's horror, a demon appeared in Gotham without anyone knowing when or where it came from.

Like a greedy wolf following the scent of blood, he appears behind you without a sound when you're injured. His inhuman eyes coolly examine your wounds, calculating your worth without a trace of warmth. He buys and sells everything: a severed arm, a cloudy eyeball, a rotting organ, or even the last heart in your chest, still beating.

As long as you make a deal, even if Death's scythe is at your throat, he can snatch your life back from the reaper.

Meanwhile, Lin Wen has no idea that he has stirred up a storm of bloodshed. Now that he's escaped the restrictions of his original world, all he wants is to enjoy a quiet retirement and fulfill a dream of his: finding a suitable nonhuman pet in Gotham.

But when he tries to treat an injured bat he happened to find by the roadside, he discovers that the creature refuses to accept the blood he's offering, no matter what.

Lin Wen: Drink! Why the hell won't you drink, you ungrateful brat? Are you picky? Do you know how much my blood would sell for on the black market?

Furious, he decides to give up on raising this rebellious vampire bat and tries to lure away some other fantastical creatures instead.

Until, to his dismay, he discovers that in Gotham, bats aren't necessarily vampires in disguise, the Penguin isn't actually a penguin, and even the Scarecrow isn't a scarecrow spirit!

But Killer Croc really is a crocodile. His hide looks pretty good. Wouldn't it make a nice bag?

Damn this Gotham, playing with his feelings. He shouldn't stay here!

Fortunately, in Metropolis, he finally encounters the perfect fantastical creature that meets all his requirements:

A being with the most convincing human disguise, beautiful and powerful, yet nonhuman.

This would make such a perfect pet!

His love has returned!

To hell with Gotham. I'm retiring in neighboring Metropolis. Bye!
