Burning Wild

Sheng Fan's first post-race interview was with Shen Jian. She was twenty years old, still in college, and so nervous that her palms were drenched in sweat as she stood in front of the podium.

Shen Jian was seventeen, a famous teenage prodigy in the racing world and a rising star. He had just won the first official race of his life, and the boy's wild, arrogant appearance set the hearts of everyone watching, on and off-screen, ablaze.

But the very next moment, Sheng Fan watched in disbelief as Shen Jian beat up a foreign racer right in front of the cameras, before all the viewers.

As a result, Shen Jian was banned from competing for three years.

Three years later, Sheng Fan had become an accomplished reporter in her own right. She was still the one interviewing Shen Jian at his comeback race.

The reckless boy was now a grown man, but he was still just as defiant. He defiantly raised his middle finger at the foreign racer from back then and sneered, "Trash. I beat you three years ago, and I'll beat you again today."

His coach frantically pinched the spot beneath his nose, wishing he could poison Shen Jian into silence.

But Sheng Fan was no longer the same person she had been back then. With a gentle smile, she pried Shen Jian's index finger out too, turning his obscene hand gesture into something friendly and wholesome.

Then she told the interpreter, "Racer Shen Jian says he's very happy to meet his old rival again after three years and settle things on the track. He's confident he can win this race."

On screen, tens of thousands of viewers could see the teenage prodigy freeze in place, his face growing redder and redder.
