A gaming-obsessed girl, Yin Yuwei, was testing a farming game on her computer one day. Its title looked censored, and its full name was The Everyday Life of Ninja X. But after repeatedly getting killed right from the start, she hadn't even managed to clear a single patch of land.
Yin Yuwei was utterly baffled. You can die in a farming game? Aren't players supposed to be invincible? What a scam. One-star review, thanks.
To her surprise, the game studio immediately apologized and mysteriously sent her a VR headset, claiming it would provide a more realistic gaming experience.
After successfully logging into the full-dive game...
Yin Yuwei: I admit I was a little harsh before... Everyday Life of Ninja X is great! Five stars. And I got to play for free!
After playing for a while...
Yin Yuwei: Is this combat system even playable? Nerf the ninja class and buff the life-skill players, please!
After activating the territory-building mode...
She watched the red-name NPCs, who were called "ninjas" but acted like "creepers," destroy her house and fields again.
The player, furious, pulled out her wallet: I'm creating a "peaceful mode" for this world right now!
A very strange person appeared in the Warring States era.
This "person" had multicolored hair, wore garish clothes, and often did things that were incomprehensible, even frightening.
The war-weary refugees thought: This must be a divine child sent by Heaven, out of pity for all living things. Only someone so compassionate would let them live in such beautiful houses, patiently ask them every day what they needed, and even help them for free.
(Player: Awesome! I don't have to run all that way across the map to turn in my daily quests anymore.)
The daimyos of various nations, who had been robbed and beaten several times over, had a different opinion: Bandits! They're completely unreasonable bandits!
(The player rummaged through their belongings: What do you mean? Your name isn't written on any of this. If I can pick it up, it's mine.)
The battling ninjas stared in blank resignation: Do you know what it's like to lie dead next to your enemy, get revived, die again, and get revived again?
(The player, heartbroken: Don't die! How am I supposed to turn in my quest if you're dead?)
The two top-tier stars of the Warring States era each commented on their dear friend's behavior:
A certain long-haired man: She shares our ideals. Together we'll build an amazing divine nation!
A certain spiky-haired man: Only the strong can control everything. After she punched the moon to pieces, I, Madara, had to call her the strongest!
Reader's guide:
1. This is my take on a player character. She takes the story seriously and plays the game, but also wanders around and flirts with NPCs. Her alignment is chaotic neutral, leaning good: Love her and she'll be a god who grants everyone's wishes; annoy her and she'll say, "Let's destroy this dull, boring world."
2. Fan works always involve some OOC characterization, since everyone understands characters differently. If anything about the plot bothers you, please leave right away!
3. There are original elements. It's a silly, cheerful everyday-life story, written to satisfy my own tastes -w-. No writing advice, please!
4. The player always thinks this is a game world, so there's no romance for her. But her tastes are her own, and she's open to men and women alike, no matter their flavor. Other characters might develop one-sided crushes on her later, or they might not. You can also read it as having no pairings.
[Here's a new idea with a similar theme: Game Designer in the Ninja World, about a scheming developer manipulating the players' perspective]
Blurb:
"What's it like to transmigrate into a fantasy world from a book?"
Jiu Qingwan: Thanks for asking. I'm in the ninja world... punching the Five Great Ninja Villages, kicking the Five Kage and daimyos, uniting the ninja world, making everyone submit, and having the whole world prostrate itself at my feet...
None of that has happened!
It's getting late, and I still have to work overtime to plan new events for the players. Let's leave it there for now.
In her fifth year of eating steamed corn buns, Jiu Qingwan couldn't help yelling at the heavens: Damn you, Heaven! You dumped me in this godforsaken place, and you can't even give me a cheat ability?
If she had to keep living this miserable life, eating sand every day, she was going to become a rogue ninja...
Finally, her cheat System that could summon players arrived. She immediately started packing:
The private savings she'd stashed away over the years could fund the territory's initial construction. Take them!
The various ninja tools she used for self-defense could serve as quest rewards for the players. Take them!
Parts and tools for making puppets could be used to create vessels for the players' souls. Take them!
And a pretty little red-haired boy, umm... (who takes hold of your clothes)...
Jiu Qingwan waved a hand. Fine, take him too!
Half a month later, a newly minted rogue ninja from Sunagakure fled the Land of Earth with her red-haired childhood friend, beginning her legendary life as the mastermind behind the scenes in another world!
Years later, looking at the transformed cyberpunk world, Jiu Qingwan couldn't help recalling the afternoon she defected. Folks, standing at the summit feels amazing. I'm sure you feel the same way!
The ninjas: …
The players: You damn dev, give us our money back! Give it back!
