Peering into Thoughts

Her ex-boyfriend suddenly died.

When Ye Chaohua heard the news, she was stunned. She didn't know whether to be glad that a piece of human trash was gone or sad that a life had been lost.

She thought carefully about everything that had happened between them, but still couldn't think of anything unusual. That was what she told the police.

Her ex-boyfriend had fallen into a lake and drowned.

On a rainy night.

The police found some evidence by the lake suggesting the death might not have been accidental, but that was all. Since Ye Chaohua's ex-boyfriend had started harassing her again recently, she became the prime suspect.

Ye Chaohua was ordinary, kind, unremarkable, and harmless.

She was soon cleared of suspicion, and the case was ultimately ruled an accidental death.

Ye Chaohua returned to her ordinary life.

Except now she had an admirer.

A handsome, sunny college student.

Note: Neither of them is a pushover.
