The Childhood Friend Who Fell from the Sky

When he was fourteen, he suddenly tripped in the snow.

Looking down, he saw her lying amid the endless snow.

Her almond-shaped eyes opened slightly, melting the frost and snow that covered the whole city. Moved in that moment, he rescued her.

He never knew raising a little girl could be so much trouble. He had to braid her hair every day, dress her in pretty clothes, and even burn osmanthus incense when she learned to write.

Four years later, her family found her and took her home.

He felt bereft. All he could do was numb himself by reading and writing. He studied for the civil service examinations, eventually becoming a transport commissioner.

But then, at a palace banquet during a diplomatic mission to the Qiang Kingdom, he saw her again.

She was veiled, wearing a thin, translucent dress that revealed her graceful figure, kneeling beside the King of Qiang as she poured his wine.

His eyes turned red at once, and the crystal cup crumbled to powder in his hand. The rose he'd raised himself was not for anyone else to pluck.
