Cutting Glass [Broken and Reunited]

One-line pitch: An honest heroine already has a boyfriend, while a high-status hero begs to be her dog.

A torturous push and pull x Reunion after a long separation | Broken relationship rekindled

Song Li moved into Gu Zhou's home when she was fifteen.

At eighteen, she moved out for good.

She left her last three years of high school, herself, and the person she loved behind there.

When they met again,

Gu Zhou was twenty-six when he knocked on Song Li's door.

Her boyfriend opened it. Song Li had just come out of the bedroom after a shower, the ends of her hair dripping wet and the kiss mark on her neck still visible.

It was the painting Song Li had ordered from a gallery. Her assistant should have delivered it, but for some reason, he had come instead.

Song Li suppresses her racing heart. "Please just leave the painting on the entryway cabinet."

Her voice is still hoarse.

Gu Zhou's gaze moves from her wet hair to the red mark on her neck. He pauses for half a second, looks away, sets down the painting, and leaves.

But after Song Li sees her boyfriend off, Gu Zhou suddenly grabs her wrist from the shadows in the hallway.

"You like his hands?" Gu Zhou asks coldly.

Wen Nian remembers that summer after high school graduation.

Cicadas sing outside the window. The bedroom is stiflingly hot. He holds her against him, his breath burning. "Why do you like me?"

Wen Nian buries herself in his sweat-damp shoulder and laughs softly. "Because you have nice hands."

But now, Song Li tilts her head up and smiles at him. "Gu Zhou, I'm not eighteen anymore."

"What's the point of looking good? As long as they work."

Later, one night, dim light shimmers in the bedroom.

He raises his wet hand, his fingertip brushing her lips, and asks softly, "Song Li, aren't they useful?"
