Just before the wedding, Jiang Sui's fiancé suddenly disappears.
His older brother, Wen Tingshen, finds Jiang Sui and offers to take his place and go through with the wedding.
Jiang Sui lowers her head and eyes, but she can't see anything.
She only asks softly, "Could we postpone the wedding for a while?"
She was forced into this in the first place and wants to marry neither brother.
Wen Tingshen's voice is distant, leaving no room for refusal. "The wedding will only be moved up."
-
Wen Tingshen is marrying her in his younger brother's place,
but he treats himself as Jiang Sui's husband.
It only makes sense for him to fulfill a husband's duties.
Jiang Sui, however, can only feel terrified. She shrinks into the corner of the bed, her face deathly pale.
In desperation, she says, "I'm pregnant... You can't do this..."
Wen Tingshen stops. His gaze falls on Jiang Sui's blind eyes,
and he remembers that day.
The door was nearly shut, letting a dim light spill into the room.
His younger brother held Jiang Sui and lowered his head to feed her warm water. She choked, but still wrapped her slender arms around Wen Yuheng's neck, her frail sobs coming in fits and starts.
She turned her head, her vacant gaze directed toward him outside the door.
She couldn't see.
Wen Tingshen stares at the terrified Jiang Sui before him and lets out an inexplicable, quiet laugh.
-
Jiang Sui spends a while carefully watching her step around Wen Tingshen.
That is, until her eyesight gradually returns and her entirely false pregnancy reaches three months.
Wen Tingshen holds her in his arms, looking down at Jiang Sui's somewhat pale face. His long-fingered hand rests on her belly.
He chuckles, his expression and eyes shrouded in shadow.
He asks, "What are you afraid of, Sui Sui?"
