Spiritual energy is declining in the Primordial World, and life is getting harder and harder for unaffiliated cultivators.
To land a position at a sacred mountain, Golden-Winged Great Peng Jialouluo follows his elder brother's advice and decides to descend to the mortal realm to become one of the trials on the journey to the West.
However, something goes wrong on his way down, and he ends up in an unfamiliar little world.
To get back, he strikes a deal with the world's pillar, the "Book": he must change the plot of a parallel world.
"He's just a Mafia boss. When I was famous throughout the Primordial World, he hadn't even appeared yet!" Jialouluo confidently declares, jinxing himself.
To protect the one world where Oda Sakunosuke is still alive and still writing novels, Boss Dazai devises a flawless "five-step plan" and follows it to the letter.
Halfway through carrying it out, some inexplicable man shows up and insists on getting in his way.
Dazai can't beat him, and he won't listen, either. For once, Boss Dazai is so furious that he snaps the pen in his hand.
"I hate people like this, all brawn and no brains!" says Boss Dazai, whose plan has been derailed for the Nth time.
Pairing: Boss Dazai x Golden-Winged Great Peng
Please note:
1. In the original Journey to the West, he is called the Golden-Winged Great Peng. I've changed it to Golden-Winged Great Peng here because lots of people call him that and it rolls off the tongue. Also, while other domineering CEOs keep canaries, our Boss Dazai keeps a Golden-Winged Great Peng. That's what I call style!
2. The Great Peng is called Garuda in Indian Buddhist legends, so I've given him the name Jialouluo.
3. The protagonist is at the top of the power scale. He may not be among the strongest in the Journey to the West world, but he's still a divine bird, so it's no problem for him to be top-tier in the Bungo Stray Dogs world.
4. His appearance is based on the sequel to the CCTV version of Journey to the West, but with a few refinements. He looks very handsome in human form!
5. Some of the Great Peng's characterization is based on Primordial-flow fiction, rather than strictly following Journey to the West, so his elder brother is called Kong Xuan.
P.S. In Journey to the West, the Peacock Wisdom King has no name, and it's unclear whether he is male or female, though most likely female. The Peacock Wisdom King being called Kong Xuan and being male comes from Investiture of the Gods, and most Primordial-flow novels use this version.
Theme: Live well, even in another world.
