The little octopus was the only intelligent creature in these waters. Though it should have lived only a few years as a Dumbo octopus, it had already spent decades living in lonely solitude.
Then one day, it happened to hear a story about Cthulhu.
And so the lonely little octopus became a devoted fan of the Cthulhu Mythos.
By chance, the palm-sized little octopus found its way into an ancient cultivation world where gods truly existed.
At last able to walk on land, the little octopus carried its tiny suitcase and a carefully copied volume of The Cthulhu Mythos, written on seaweed. Like any passionate fan, it sincerely recommended its favorite stories to everyone around it.
Knock, knock, knock.
The little octopus gently tapped on the closed wooden door, its voice nervous. "Hello, sir. Do you have a moment to learn about our great father, the beginning of all things, the mysterious and blind idiot god, Azathoth?"
.
The dark god had slumbered for a long time. He did not depend on faith, but the world's increasingly powerful rejection was gradually weakening him.
Creatures from beyond wreaked havoc in the name of darkness, while people created pure and radiant gods and came to fear darkness to the extreme.
He slept upon his divine throne until, one day, an unfamiliar faith rang in his ears.
"Azathoth?"
"The King in Yellow..."
"Cthulhu?"
The god raised an eyebrow and watched as a clearly identified yet utterly unfamiliar subordinate god appeared through faith, born from his power.
.
Immortal sects stood everywhere, and gods were numerous. Powerless mortals clung to gods created by mortals, offering them everything they had.
People feared darkness and despised anything that strayed from beauty, purity, and cleanliness.
But the light was too scorching. Countless people burned to death beneath its blistering rays.
One day, a dying person huddled in a home made of wooden planks and dimly heard a gentle knock at the door.
A voice from the bottom of the abyss, chaotic and disorienting, rang directly in their mind.
"My lord, my father... The origin of all things... Azathoth! Azathoth!"
The reflection in their dull eyes revealed enormous pink tentacles vast enough to blot out the sky. Unknown slime flowed beneath them as a monster whose full form could not be seen slowly and calmly pressed closer.
"Azathoth!" they cried.
The dull eyes lit up once more, and the desperate person threw themself into the darkness.
"My lord, my father, the god who began all things... Azathoth, Azathoth."
"Your believer hopes to receive your protection..."
"...Azathoth!"
PS: This is the story of a palm-sized Cthulhu Mythos fan, a little octopus who recommends its favorite works in a cultivation world, only to discover that it has truly created Cthulhu Mythos gods and saved their believers.
PPS: Many gods will appear. In the story, each god is a manifestation of the male lead's power. This is not meant to offend the Cthulhu Mythos gods.
PPPS: The little octopus can't see the gods it creates. The world looks different from its perspective than it does to everyone else. It isn't very powerful, but people keep misunderstanding it. This is a story about people reading too much into things.
Theme: The power of faith.
