June Frost Legend
Written by Ji Nu of Ying Zong, typesetting based on the version of the Reform Novel Society in the 33rd year of Guangxu's reign
Written by Zong Jinu, Yue Ying in ancient times. Published by the Reform Novels Society in the 33rd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1907), it is a work written by Qiu Jin to complain about his grievances, with a total of fourteen volumes, plus one volume each of Qiu Jin's posthumous writings and his lamentations. It was adapted into a novel of the same name, with a total of twelve chapters.
The legend of "June Frost" is the only known opera written by a woman about Qiu Jin. The play creates an image of Qiu Jin that is different from many "Qiu Jin operas" at that time. From the selection of plot angles and the shaping of Qiu Jin's image, we can understand the spiritual traits and cultural mentality of progressive intellectual women during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.
