The Foolish Child King

Xie Jingchan is a little girl who isn't quite right in the head.

There are only two things she cares about in life.

First, the remains of her late father, the Great General Who Guards the Nation.

Second, her childhood sweetheart, Pei Wangxing, heir to the Duke of Ming, who has always indulged her.

She hid the remains under her bed and slept with them as a pillow.

She guarded her childhood sweetheart like a tigress, never letting him out of her sight.

For fifteen years, the remains stayed safe, and so did her sweetheart. They were on the verge of getting married when he suddenly received an official assignment.

Before they parted, Xie Jingchan, who had been coaxed for a long time, clung tightly to the young man's waist and gave him one of her little finger bones. A master had told her that this would make her lover stay by her side forever.

The young man cried with her. He looked back again and again as he left, promising he would return soon and bring her jadeite pastries.

Xie Jingchan believed him and waited.

Six months later, the young man returned without any pastries. Xie Jingchan wasn't angry.

Another six months passed, and the jadeite pastries appeared on her desk. Only then did Xie Jingchan realize:

It was her young man who had never come back.

The heir to the Duke of Ming's household died in the Qinhuai River.

The man who returned wearing his face was Yuan Ye, a man burdened with a blood feud.

At first, to Yuan Ye, it was nothing more than an insignificant scheme. He would return to the capital under someone else's identity, take revenge for a few unimportant grudges, and sit on an equally unimportant throne.

It just so happened that this identity came with a fiancée.

And, as it happened, that fiancée became the person he loved.

The girl was silly and dazed, wild and unpredictable, yet she possessed one thing that was real.

Her sincerity, affection, and devotion were all genuine, even if they weren't meant for him.

Yuan Ye basked in her love and cherished her regard.

In the end, he no longer wanted to be Yuan Ye. He only wanted to be the dead Pei Wangxing.

But Pei Wangxing had already been killed by his own hand.
