"The Fish in the Pond Dreams of a Butterfly"
Blurb: "Amnesia" "Face-slapping after realizing true feelings" "Groveling to win her back" "Says one thing, means another"
Chi Xiaodie was sent away when she was still in the bloom of youth.
In Chang'an, rumors spread that Princess Chang Jin, who had arrived to marry for peace, was peerlessly beautiful and possessed a face capable of captivating a city.
The Sixth Prince, Li Yu, was famous from a young age and was born arrogant and unruly.
His older brothers dragged their prickly younger brother along to sneak a look at the princess. He glanced at her and summed her up in one word: "Ugly."
With green willows on the emerald mountains and apricot blossoms fluttering over her hair, Chi Xiaodie was playing with butterflies in a covered walkway when she came across Li Yu, who had slipped out of the palace.
The young prince looked down at her, then snatched the butterfly kite from her hands and hung it high in a tree. He threatened to hang her up there too if she dared take it down.
Half an hour later, the Second Prince, Li Mingyi, passed by. Seeing the princess looking aggrieved, he shook his head again and again. "Li Yu bullied the princess again."
An hour later, the Third Prince, Li Guyan, passed by. Seeing the princess's red-rimmed eyes, he clicked his tongue. "Li Yu threatened the princess again."
An hour and a half later, the Fifth Princess, Li Zhaowen, passed by. Seeing the princess weeping uncontrollably, she cried out in shock. "Li Yu made the princess cry again."
Two hours later.
The culprit, Li Yu, took the long way back to the palace. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the princess had climbed the tree and was trembling as she reached for her kite.
A wicked idea came to Li Yu. He picked up a pebble from the ground and hurled it at the tree trunk.
Apricot blossoms flew, and the spring rain stopped. The green figure shuddered in fright and fell from the tree.
The instant she fell, Li Yu hurried forward and caught her.
The young prince gave her a roguish grin, then really did hang her from the tree.
From that day on, Chi Xiaodie was left with a terrible fear.
-Extra Scene-
Li Yu had somehow learned that the princess's childhood nickname had been "Jade-Waisted Darling."
When the wet nurse used to sing the princess to sleep, he personally went to ask her to teach him the lullaby.
At first, the wet nurse refused with all her might. He had someone find a potion that would make her mute and said that if she would not teach him, he would make her drink it.
The wet nurse taught him, and Li Yu learned the song. That night, the palace attendants heard him singing to soothe the princess. He had barely sung a few lines when he was kicked out of the hall.
His voice stayed hoarse for over a month. Later, he found out that Chi Xiaodie had poured the potion into the Sixth Prince's mouth.
Later still, while pretending to be asleep, she heard him hoarsely managing nothing but a string of "ah-ah-ahs." She deliberately kicked him out of bed, looking aggrieved as she said, "I'm sorry. I was having a nightmare and thought some stray dog was barking. So it was Your Highness the Sixth Prince. Please punish me!"
Li Yu: "..." (Woof, woof, woof.)
