Peering into the Heart on a Rainy Night

Zhou Yixi first met Song Senyu at the Shen family home.

He was the son of her adoptive father's second wife.

At the time, she and Shen Yuyuan were in love and secretly dating at home, when he caught them.

That night, he leaned against the doorframe. The room was dark, and the light from the hall only illuminated the smiling lower half of his face. His voice was soft. “Sis.”

After a pause, he said with a faintly mocking smile, “Brother is such a coward. He doesn't even dare defy Father for you.”

He tilted his head and laughed. “Does he really... love you?”

Zhou Yixi's face stiffened. The man before her seemed sinister and frightening.

The second time she saw Song Senyu was on a rainy night half a month later.

Her adoptive father had discovered their relationship and forced them to break up.

After a huge fight with Shen Yuyuan, she ran out into the rain.

Song Senyu came toward her with an umbrella, tilting it entirely over her and letting half his own shoulder get soaked. His tone was unhurried. “You're soaked through, Sis. It makes me worry about you.”

Remembering what he'd said that night, she couldn't hold back her anger. “Are you happy now?”

He didn't deny it. After a few seconds of silence, he said very softly, “Does it matter whether I'm happy? It's true that he didn't choose you.”

After cutting ties with Shen Yuyuan, she moved out of the Shen family home.

To her surprise, Song Senyu lived right across from her.

He appeared in front of her every day, finding one way after another to win her over.

A bowl of soup today, a bouquet of flowers tomorrow, always with that gentle, innocent smile she couldn't bring herself to refuse.

At last, one day, she couldn't take it anymore. “Get lost! I hate you. You know that, don't you?”

After that, he really did stop showing up.

Until one day, Song Senyu found her again.

His eyes were red from crying, and his voice choked. “Can't you even look at me, Sis? I like you so much... Why don't you like me?”

In that moment, her heart, hard as stone, suddenly softened.
