A Pretty Young Woman Arrives at the Family Compound in the 1980s

Yi Sishuang's family transmigrated to the 1980s. Over the past few years, they had made quite a bit of money raising silkworms.

Her father's cousin, who was about to follow his son south to do business, owned a house in the city workers' compound. He had Yi Sishuang's family move into the compound that very day to look after it.

On moving day, everyone from upstairs and downstairs came to have a look.

Even the countryside could produce a pretty girl. This clever, nimble young woman could raise silkworms and weave clothes, cook, and had a pair of bright eyes like sparkling snow crystals.

All the older men and women in the compound wanted Yi Sishuang to marry into their families as a granddaughter-in-law.

Only Old Master Ran sighed. If his grandson hadn't been in an accident a few years ago, and had married a girl from the Yi family, what a well-matched couple they would have made. He could probably be holding a grandchild by now.

Old Master Ran's grandson was named Ran Quanshi. After returning a few years earlier, he had lost the sight in one eye. He covered his right eye with a piece of black cloth, making him look both pitiful and frightening.

Ran Quanshi was a quiet man, and Yi Sishuang thought they would never have anything to do with each other.

Until one day, the clothes Yi Sishuang had hung out to dry fell onto Ran Quanshi's windowsill.

In Ran Quanshi's room, Yi Sishuang saw an unput-away medal of honor, along with a photograph of him from before he lost his sight.

He wore a military uniform, wild and unrestrained, alive beneath the blazing sun rising over the desert.

She seemed to have seen him before, much earlier.

Later, when Yi Sishuang came of age to marry, a matchmaker handed her a photograph. The man in it was none other than Ran Quanshi.

Yi Sishuang said, "No need to introduce us. I'll marry him."

Ran Quanshi had thought he would spend his whole life alone. But one day, a pretty young woman burst into his world.

He had seen her before he lost his sight. One rainy day, the little girl had come into the city to deliver duck eggs to her father's cousin's family.

He had given her an umbrella and told her she didn't need to return it.

Later, he realized she had entered his heart and would never leave.
